Stay classy, LiveTwitFace:

People say "oh, it's all those Russians, the US LJ staff are nice people." But the actual available evidence of behaviour strongly suggests that, for your own safety, you should regard anyone who's still working for LJ as actively dangerous to your safety unless they have amazing character references and a truly spectacular excuse to still be there.

The staffer who twiddled the database to comment on a locked post is still working for them instead of his stalker ass being thrown out onto the street so hard he bounced twice. LJ allows its staff to treat your private entries as a perk of the job. Think about whether it's safe even commenting on LJ.

Update: Feel free to link this (as http://reddragdiva.dreamwidth.org/543143.html) far and wide. I posted it to Facebook and Twitter ;-)

Crusading posts like these always make me picture you in a unitard with ridiculous belt and cape. Oh, and a mask. And probably lipstick.

Just thought you should know. ;)

I'm currently weighing whether I even want to keep an lj account anymore, even though I would lose a dozen or more folks who I am very fond of, if I chose to leave outright. Several have turned down invite codes on the assumption that the devil you know is better than the one you don't know.

I already have a couple of clumps over here, which is why it's been as easy as it has. But, there are still a few who are suspicious of it, or what have you.

I went over my FL there to weed out superfluous stuff, so I could see what the real lj-associated-friend activty is like, and discovered that being mostly on DW has actually caused someone who was suspicious of DW to unfriend me outright, no goodbye. Oh well.

I dislike the drama that is generated by the other drama.

So am I, though the recent issue has all but silenced so may people that I have little to go over there to read. It's something that I'll have to consider for a couple of weeks, just to see if anything comes back. Right now it's nearly all featured community spam. I might take them off and see what it's really like, because just now it's all communities and folks who are crossposting from here.

If everyone i want to read is here, I might as well just be here. But I'll give it a bit. Who knows.

May I pick your brains? How do I set up my DW->LJ crossposting so it works like yours, please? I like the idea of only allowing commenting over here, in the circumstances.

Handy tip if you're referring to user accounts on different sites when cross-posting: DW has a little addition to the LJ code. To post my LJ user name instead of my DW one, for instance, I'd use the following:

<lj-user="arkady" site="livejournal.com">

Which looks like [livejournal.com profile] arkady. It works for community names, too.

That's <lj user="whomever" site="livejournal.com"> (space, not hyphen), I believe. Actually I didn't know that that worked for lj user= until now, although of course it makes sense in hindsight; I'd been doing <user name="whomever" site="livejournal.com">.

Actually, it works either with a space or with a hyphen. I used a hyphen for my username above.

That's odd. I actually tried running <lj-user="xlerb" site="livejournal.com"> through the comment previewer before I commented, and got an error. I wonder what happens if I ignore the error and just post it:
[Error: Irreparable invalid markup ('<lj-user="xlerb">') in entry. Owner must fix manually. Raw contents below.]

You've got a hyphen between "lj" and "user." The hyphen shouldn't be there.

Yes. That is, in fact, exactly what I said in my earlier comment, but [personal profile] arkady had observed it working with the hyphen, so I Tried Science by doing it deliberately. And Science told me that it's just as invalid as it's always been. So I'm not entirely clear on what was going on there (although I wonder if there's a browser extension that autocorrects it, since it's not entirely uncommon from what I've seen).

Best thing to do is just go with the intuitive Dreamwidth versions: <user name="foo" site="bar.com"> and <cut> or <cut text="foo bar">. No confusing hyphens where hyphens may or may not belong.

Random, but I've seen people doing this around, and have been wondering how they did it. Thanks!

Does this also work the other way around? Because I've seen people in the LJ News post linking to DW users and comms. Would you just put dreamwidth.org where livejournal.com is?

If you're trying to link back to DW from LJ, the link is at the bottom of every userinfo page on DW (very convenient, I use them all the time!)

If your post is pushed from DW to LJ using the crossposter, it happily translates the <user> tags for you as it crossposts.

If you're commenting directly on LJ, no such luck.

At the bottom of your profile there's a section called "Linking". The bottom one is the code you use on LJ (or any other LJ coded site) to link to DW. :)

If you look at the bottom of your profile page, there's a section called linking. You copy and paste the bottom HTML to post a link outside of Dreamwidth.

(Out of nowhere, I'm sorry ;) I was one of the ones linking to people in the News post)
