Sunday afternoon had Michael O'Brien (with macho new skull scar!) and new wife Bek, strangedave and
doctor_k_ and my brother Paul. Who says the sort of things I say but even crasser. The drinkable beer was Cascade. $15 steak that was really good! Damned fine Sunday session.
Monday I drove into the city to go record shopping. The hail (1-2cm) started just as I got out of the car. Made it to Dada, said hi to Rob (the original founder, who is grimly holding onto the record business by the fingertips — we both commented how old the other was looking), bought CDs of the Kryptonics, Manikins, Summer Suns and Rob Findlay. I actually have the first three in their entirety, but just buying the CDs is easier than digging out the originals to rip. Chad Hedley was on the CD counter, we shared the joys of tormenting teenagers with our idea of music.
I tried making it across town to 78 before it shut and managed 10km/h down Hay Street with near-zero visibility before giving up and stopping by the side of the road for half an hour waiting for the pounding blatter on the windscreen to let up. Failed to make 78 in time, so then spent an hour and twenty minutes trying to get out of the city in rush hour while the storm overflowed the drains and the traffic was blocked by dead cars in the middle of the road. FUCK I HATE DRIVING IN THE MIDDLE OF PERTH.
Got to the airport to pick up redcountess just before she got off her plane and made it back to the hostel for her to check in. We then went to dinner in Northbridge, where I explained that, no really, Monday evening was about the best time to attempt to park in Northbridge.
Liz and I spent Tuesday driving around Perth. Drove by my parents' old house in Wembley and there was a little kid Freda's age, bouncing up and down just like her! Made 78 and saw nothing worth buying, but Liz got a 78 Records stubbie holder. Dropped her off at jo_hoetmer's, dropped the car back at Dave and Karen's (though I think their copy of Keating The Musical is still at my sister's, oops) and bussed back to my sister's. Where the power was out. Slept for four hours, got up at three to go for the plane.
I arrived back to a very happy little Freda and a just as happy arkady. Jetlagging back to GMT. So. What's been happening?
