I am writing this on the Dell Mini 9 I just bought from [livejournal.com profile] secretlondon. Ubuntu 10.04 installed from the USB stick I keep with me for guerilla Ubuntu installs. I am SO ENORMOUSLY HAPPY. I've wanted one of these since they came out, and didn't stop when they were discontinued. It's SO TINY and so JUST THE RIGHT FORM FACTOR. I'm in nerdgasm delight.

(Most annoying thing about a new computer: re-entering all my site passwords in Firefox.)

This is the base model, with 1GB RAM and 8GB flash disk. 2G RAM is £30ish, SSD is stupidly expensive so I'll probably just whack in an SD card. Also has 3G, should I care to avail myself of such. Also, [personal profile] katieastrophe, I'll need another ORG sticker.

[livejournal.com profile] patchworkkid is in town, so [livejournal.com profile] valkyriekaren, [livejournal.com profile] cavalorn and I will be celebrating his presence down the Dev tomorrow evening. Wednesday is Freda's third birthday and Thursday is a date with [personal profile] nyecamden.

Update: Bling shopping list: 2GB memory ~£30, 8-cell non-Dell battery ~£30-40, 32GB SD card ~£50. I'll wait till what it is gets painful enough that I bother, that's how to save money on tech.

For passwords and bookmarks, there's a few solutions. On my personal desktop/laptops, I use Xmarks. At work, I installed Mozilla Weave to help backup/copy them all when I knew I would have to rebuild my desktop last week.

I've already sung the praises of Xmarks to him multiple times; he's suffering the characteristic inertia caused my a lack of correctly-shaped tuits.

Glad you like it - was an impulse OMG shiny + just paid thing that has just sat in my front room.

Since I got my 13 inch macbook pro I've barely _looked_ at hardware. It is awesome, even without the student discount. Since I got the ipod touch Jobs has had my soul, and I get withdrawal symptoms from lack of iphone.

Send all my love to Freda for Wednesday. 3! 3!

I love my 13" unibody macbook (the precursor to the pro) and think it was worth the expense, even second hand. Too bad I'm too scared to take it out because I can't get standalone insurance for it :/

I still don't store passwords on Firefox, I guess old habits die hard. Xmarks seems even more of a security risk, although I use it for bookmarks.

I use 1Password for that; can make it sync between 2 macs and an iPhone too.

I just bought my wife an Averatec N1130 netbook. That one's somewhat larger than your Dell Mini, having a 10.1 inch display, but it's still smaller than most notebooks. I think it's designed to fill a niche between the notebook and netbook. It's basically a rebranded MSI Wind. It's small enough that she can take it with her in her purse yet it has everything she might need except a CD/DVD drive She's active in charity work, being on the finance committee of our local animal rescue organization (and playing the role of general secretary at the meetings as often as not) and loves it: it's perfect for her needs. (Incidentally, this is Shamus9999 from LJ, posting before the morning coffee has taken effect.)

Also, tajasel, I'll need another ORG sticker.

I think I still have some left but you may be best off dropping someone an email (katerina@openrightsgroup.org or michael@openrightsgroup.org) rather than waiting to see me again. (My contract with them is up and I'm unemployed so not getting out as much as I was.)

ta :) I do usually have them with me anyway, but probably will be faster to get them to post you a couple. Still, may see you at some point; I seem to be making Sluts and/or Sunday evening Pembury my social events at the moment.

Rah, see you later!

I was telling Cam the story of how I first met you - I left out the part about how we identified which coat was yours though. Thought I'd save that embarrassing little detail for when you were actually in the room.

I have a little Dell Mini 9, running Snow Leopard. On another SSD I have Ubunt 9.xomething, but don't run that often. It's a sweet little toy, although for long typing I have to use an external keyboard, can't seem to get on with the tiny keyboard... otherwise, lovely little machine.
