[livejournal.com profile] absinthea and [livejournal.com profile] blixa23 visited on the weekend (Carrie was over for a conference), so I made up large chunks of my pub deficit in the Dev on Friday evening. Amazing how much determined pubbing one can get into a couple of hours. Also got a [livejournal.com profile] blaadyblah liquored up and back to our den of iniquity.

[livejournal.com profile] redcountess and I sadly failed to make [livejournal.com profile] zoo_music_girl and [livejournal.com profile] ladymoonray's birthday do, and did we miss out. Quiet night in on Saturday, [livejournal.com profile] arkady visiting for Sunday and yesterday. We watched From Hell on DVD. The special features are true shovelware. Film was pretty good, but. Tonight I go to [livejournal.com profile] arkady's to look pretty while she frantically packs.

I must say that Roundup is my idea of a gardening tool. It's causing a heartening case of slow death for the deadly nightshade and the laburnum. The latter turning out to be runners from the tree-sized laburnum next door - someone having failed to work out that their decorative shrub is in fact noxious and poisonous. DIE, YOU FUCK.

Here are some pictures of our garden, including [livejournal.com profile] arkady in a silly hat with kitty ears.

Don't forget the wedding, on Saturday July 12th. If you want to attend the ceremony, please email promptly. If you don't think you'll get up that early, be sure to come to the pub - proceedings starting just before 1pm. All are welcome. (That is to say, I expect you to show.) We have a gift list (not obligatory).

I could so do with about three months' holiday right about now.

And please send many bottles of Leffe - or any other Belgian blonde beer - for [livejournal.com profile] redcountess. After months forced onto the wagon, she has found REAL BEER SHE CAN DRINK!

roundup is my idea of a nerve agent based REALLY DANGEROUS THING. On the whole far worse for you than laburnum or deadly nightshade.

Mum picked up a little flamethrower for her weeds. Long handled blow torch really, but it does the job without poisoning anyone.

Roundup is glyphosate, right? Glyphosate is cuddly fun compared to paraquat and its ilk. I keep seeing phrases along the lines of "No long-term effects on human health have been observed" when I google, and I find specifically "While it does contain a phosphatyl functional group, it is not structually similar to organophosphate pesticides which contain organophosphate esters, and it does not significantly inhibit cholinesterase activity."

Greenpeace seem to think the surfactant in Roundup is more of a problem to non-plant life than the glyphosate itself.

No long term effects on human health have been looked for, or on occasion specifically ignored. The only human tests were conducted on a very short term basis, discovering that it took about a cupful to kill someone. There are a few support groups for those who've realised what it is affecting them. This is a story from one of the contacts for the support groups. http://www.andover.towncentral.co.uk/SpecialInterests/MyStory.asp
one of the other stories is from a TBT poisoning sufferer

I appreciate your concern. As I already have Lupus, I took some precautions when I did the initial spraying - made sure it wasn't very windy, wore protective clothing and a mask. I did a lot of research first before I decided to buy the roundup, mainly because out of concern for the local wildlife, and if we had the money would have bought one of the weed zappers (the flame thrower).

IMNSHO, London's pollution is more likely to cause nerve damage than the roundup.

I found that while pollution caused a low level dreary illness the Glyphosate was far more debilitating, with associated migranes and exaustion.
Also London tends to cause direct damage to say hearing and sense of smell/taste as opposed to the wooly thinking of the glyphosate.
