ANTHONY H WILSON today announced that with the collaboration of TREVOR HORN,
PAUL MORLEY and PETER SAVILLE, that a new record label for Manchester,
following in the same ideals as Factory did, will be launched from Peter
Street, Manchester in the Autumn. Name yet Undecided.
THIS IS GREAT NEWS for followers of Factory and ZTT.
More Info as it gets to me!!!!!

What amazes me is the idea of anyone letting money near these men after this.

The way I look at it, at least they were (reasonably) honest about the whole thing. It's not like nobody knew what they were getting into before the Hammer came down.

One of these days, if ever I were to get enough money, I'm either going to write a book or do a documentary about the Dallas (Texas) music scene between 1976 and 2000. God, what a strange, surreal, and glorious story, and the only traces of that grand Cambrian explosion that hit the outside world were Lisa Loeb and Edie Brickell. It's sorta like how the only music that escaped Australia in the early Eighties was from Men at Work, Big Country, and Michael Hutchense: those who weren't there honestly didn't know what they missed, and the record labels did their damnedest to make sure that the infection didn't spread. Damn shame.

Combining Tony Wilson and Trevor Horn is somewhat head-explody as well. Presumably by the time Peter Saville finishes the sleeve, Trevor Horn will have finished the production and Tony Wilson will have gotten the money together ...

Oh, that's scary. I mean, REALLY scary. Here in the US, the band was pitched as being from Australia. (Not all that much of a surprise, really: I remember when Kurt Cobain finally did us that big favor and all of the local radio stations jumped on the opportunity to flood the airwaves with hours of "Seattle sound" whiner rock. Precious few actual Seattle bands in that blast of banality, and I loved the rationalization one deejay gave for playing Stone Temple Pilots for two hours: "They aren't from Seattle, but they sound like they should be.")

Of course, I live in a town with a reputation for dangerous music stretching back to the blues clubs in the 1930s, and the only Dallas-based music you can hear out here is Edie Brickell, Lisa Loeb, ZZ Top, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and the cheer Pantera did for the Dallas Stars when they won the Stanley Cup. If you're a local musician and you aren't rimming David Geffen, you have absolutely no chance of getting airplay. I actually heard more Dallas music when I lived in Oregon than I did the whole time I've lived here. Blues.

Well, put it this way, the film was tame compared to what really happened. I've heard some of the stories first hand. They would be funny if they weren't so tragic. :(

Which book? There are many on Madchester/Factory etc. I haven't read the 24hr Party People book but I have met many of the characters contained therein.
