B-Movie was wonderful and sorely needed. I have so missed going out and socialising. And seeing all you lovely people! [livejournal.com profile] redcountess was ill with the thing that's going around, so I went with [livejournal.com profile] arkady - on her first public outing as Arkady Ilyana Rose (by law). She wore the three straps and a special effect and I wore the skirt and a cotton shirt. Forgot my tits, dammit - I shall have to make a list beforehand for next time. (I am utterly unable to think coherently on a Friday between leaving work and finishing my first pint.) We got there around 9:30pm and walked straight in. I promptly removed my trousers, put on the skirt and sat for [livejournal.com profile] arkady to do my makeup for the entertainment of the crowd.

I don't think there was actually a queue all evening - people staying away in fear of the heat - but [livejournal.com profile] sexbat says the night broke even and people had a good time, and that's what counts. Attendees took over the pavement out front of Water Rats, which is probably a gross licence violation but was the only sane way to live. And certainly had the best air conditioning. The front half of the pub was near-empty, actually being the hottest part - the dancefloor area was cooler!

In an astounding attack of sanity, the pub put a jug of cold water on the end of the bar with pint glasses. I think they did this when they noticed everyone buying a pint was getting a pint of tapwater as well. This would have made the people generally more sober, except of course that their brains were all cooking.

I danced to "You Could Be Mine" by G'n'f'n'R for [livejournal.com profile] redcountess and [livejournal.com profile] mircea. [livejournal.com profile] childeric kept his top on all evening, just to be a contrary fuck. [livejournal.com profile] ali_anarres seems to have acquired a permanent silly grin. People sensibly decided clothes beyond technical decency were a ridiculous concept, and we have quite a few pics.

A top night. I do, however, think it's time to start an activist organisation dedicated to making air conditioning mandatory in all British public houses.

I suspect it'll be a very long time before I go to B-Movie again... possibly with the way things are, not again. London just feels too far to travel these days, I even baulk at traveling by bus 20mins to the otherside of town to go round to Paul's. Pathetic really :( Still roll on Whitby! I'll make that.. still gotta find all the money to pay for it mind... but we'll both be there :)

CAMRA has a small sort of side-campaign about pub ventilation, mostly as a way to alleviate the internecine strife it suffers over smoking vs non-smoking pubs - supporting "decent ventilation" takes the hot air out of both sides (ho, ho...).

Really, can you blame me?

The jugs of cold water were there based on your request (that I passed on) - they were delayed because they couldn't find the jugs!

The pub ran out of ice.

The extractor pipe for the woefully insufficient airconditioning unit was stolen last week so it was not on.

We also put lots of extra fans around the place to try and help. All in all I think the heat wasn't as bad as last month - but then I wasn't wearing a 3 piece suit this time ...

They seemed to get on with the concept - although I did need to remind them about it during the course of the evening.
