To celebrate [livejournal.com profile] ruthi and Cookie's engagement, to make up for cancelling videos with [livejournal.com profile] vatine last Saturday and because Walthamstow pubbing must be celebrated ... we should hit a pub on Friday evening. Say 8pm. Er, somewhere.

Is there anyone familiar with Walthamstow who would know what pubs (a) have real beer and (b) are actually tolerable on a Friday (of all nights) and aren't full of aggressive downmarket persons on lager? [livejournal.com profile] vatine thinks the Bell (where [livejournal.com profile] redcountess and I had our wedding reception) may be suitable. Please post your wisdom.

Saturday, [livejournal.com profile] redcountess, [livejournal.com profile] arkady and I aim to be at [livejournal.com profile] fluffymark's housewarming.

Update: The Bell it is. (Marked on the map as "PUB!")

Pub sounds like a fine plan. I need to celebrate being paid! :) I don't know any pubs in Walthamstow at all well, so can't help you there, but agree about teh need for real beer and some peace and quiet to drink it in. :)

Yay housewarming! *bounce* *bounce* *huuuuuuuuuuuugs* :)

Dunno about Walthamstow. There's a Wetherspoons in Leytonstone that's OK, one of the staff is a friend of mine and a cool bloke.

Wetherspoons? Ok? *takes deep breath*

Sure :)

That one up that road is good. Offord Road - walk up there, keep walking, past the chippy and offy and you've got rather a nice little boozer. That may the Bell. I never went drinking in Walthamstow and there is a REASON for that!

Why don't you try that boozer in Seven Sisters that [livejournal.com profile] marnameow's friend (?) owns or something? I can't remember owt about it but it seemed rather smashing and it's closer to the Stow than the HoS.

The pub in question is part owned and managed by [livejournal.com profile] timeplease, and called the Oakdale Arms (http://www.individualpubs.co.uk/oakdale/index.htm).

Heh. I was just wondering where his pub was, and if he was around on LJ etc these days. Will have to add him to my friends list, and will also put in a vote for going to the Oakdale, then, though god knows how to get to Seven Sisters from my place!

Yes, I think the Bell sounds perfectly fine, indeed.

AIUI [livejournal.com profile] timeplease is actually working at their Peterborough pub (http://www.individualpubs.co.uk/coalheavers/index.htm) for the forseeable future, due to the death of the manager there.

Ah. I had heard about the death of the manager some time ago, but with no timeframe attached, so wasn't aware he was still in Peterborough.
I am SO out of the loop. *sigh* This makes me very unhappy indeed.

Dunno what pubs are like in Walthamstow, friends never seem willing to come all the way up here to go to a pub.
Friday evening sounds fine to me, except I might have to escape early and leave the fiance behind . Or not.

Walthamstow pub list, "Bell" unrated. "The Drum" seems to be about the same distance, "the other way" from the train station. As long as I have a decent idea of "where" as I head off from work tomorrow, I should be fine.

Ah, you're talking about the Village, nice pub, but they didn't want to know about us when we asked to have our wedding there, so we'd rather give our custom to the people who bent over backwards to have us (The Bell).

The Drum is a bit like its near-namesake in A-M from all appearances.
