reddragdiva: (gosh!)

Today was [livejournal.com profile] redcountess's seventh birthday. I gave her an eoR and an Almost Famous DVD (though, admittedly, she clicked "buy" on that one herself). [livejournal.com profile] arkady gave her Hobbits II, Blood From A Stone Edition. (Has anyone gotten Gollum out of the box without ripping it?) [livejournal.com profile] arkady showed up on the doorstep at 7am because she is on crack lovely and wonderful and was dropping over the iron we desperately needed to hand — Liz had a job interview and I had to nick off on a secret mission.

Liz and I went for lunch at Caffe Uno in Tottenham Court Road just after her interview for her birthday meal out. The bacon cheeseburger is like someone who could actually cook had read the words "bacon cheeseburger" and decided to make real food of that description. YOU MUST HAVE ONE OF THESE.

Then to the 'l33t++ lupus clinic, where we found out ... Liz definitely does not have lupus, so her internal organs will not rot away! Nor rheumatoid arthritis, so her joints won't do the same! The bad news is that she's still sick, so the next options are fibromyalgia or ME/CFS, which are ill-defined things with no particular treatment that hence tend to highlight arse-elbow dysphoria in the medical profession. But the GP will be getting a letter recommending a referral to Whipps Cross rheumatology, who seem broadly competent if terribly overworked. It's a slow and annoying process, but we'll get there.

Liz hung out in Holborn while I dashed home to feed the rats and change, then returned to the Princess Louise upstairs. Assisting in the celebrations were [livejournal.com profile] arkady, [livejournal.com profile] poggs, [livejournal.com profile] vatine, [livejournal.com profile] urocyon_c, [livejournal.com profile] clanwilliam, [livejournal.com profile] gmh, [livejournal.com profile] valkyriekaren, [livejournal.com profile] wechsler, [livejournal.com profile] nils, [livejournal.com profile] fluffymark, [livejournal.com profile] d_floorlandmine and entirely too much fucking smoke. Though the food is large and nice and the beer is cheap. We were comprehensively buggered, but managed to stay until 8:30pm. Apologies to anyone arriving after then. What a nice way to turn seven!

Oh! We've got that Eeyore! He's a great Eeyore!

He says, "Well. I suppose that there would be others. I'm not that special."

And now he is being bounced at by Gemas, who think that he is very silly and should go attempt to cajole beer or wine out of the cupboards. He's asserting that this would be a very bad plan, because he would cry into his beer and fall asleep.

(Well, possibly this has not, in fact, just happened.)

(EDIT: What is up with this word transposition?)

Our Gollum is still *in* the box.

Too hard.

Yay on the not=lupus, bugger on the fibro or ME thing - GPs are so crap at dealing with that, sadly. Forest has fibro and has various websites and self-help groups bookmarked plus a couple of useful books, holler if they would be handy to know about.

Fibromyalgia.

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia when I was 14. It's taken somewhat seriously in the States, but it's rather laughed at over here. When I first moved here and I told my GP I had it, he said, "Oh, that's nonsense, you're just overweight." Well, I wasn't overweight when I was 14. I'm familiar with all the wonderous symptoms that mimic other diseases, too. I've been tested for everything from diabetes to lupus to rheumatoid. I don't know how to get the doctors to listen to me... I'm glad Liz's seem to want to help.

[grin] And so much for plans to pop off just after you. I blame various conversations about firearms and [livejournal.com profile] jhaelan's game ...

Fibromyalgia and ME/CFS may be pain-in-the-ass diseases and basically untreatable, not to mention guaranteed to bring out the worst in everybody you ever knew - medical prefession especially - but they are perfectly well defined.

I have http://tertius.net.au/foothold/, obviously, but I may be biased *grin*

If anybody wants to talk, get connected up with support online or offline in ... umm ... are you still in Melby? Wherever. I can help with that stuff.

Email is best, it's in my userinfo.

Hugs,
Ricky and [livejournal.com profile] thomascat

I must admit I haven't dared try yet, but then again I am a collectorwhore who hasn't even taken the FotR book ends out yet either (or undone the cellophane...)

I think it's a fantastic term... though it doesn't have the same ring with my ridiculous American accent. ;)

Yes, it does. Now, I am overweight. However, the pain has been the CAUSE of that, not the effect. I'm not arguing that being overweight doesn't exacerbate the pain sometimes (exacerbate, isn't that a great word?) but the core of the problem lies somewhere in my fucked up physiology. I still think that maybe it has something to do with the fact that I developed freakishly fast as a child.

I have put on about 20 kilos during my current bout of whatever I have, so know what you mean. And I too was an early developer.
