Sending me a stroppy email saying how very right you were to splatter badly-spelled advocacy over the wiki and why, and ending said email with a boilerplate paragraph on why I should send not one but two replies to get through your email whitelisting system, will definitely get me doing whatever you think is a good idea.

I have friends with Asperger's. You, on the other hand, are a fuckhead.

"email whitelist" would have summed it up for me.

aka "Prove You Love Me"... which almost has a pronounceable acronym, opposed to "TMDA" or whatever it's "official" name is.

"Stroppy". Jesus H. Christ, I was sure Chris made that one up.

Guess it's an Aussie thing then, eh?

Not so much Aussie as British, viz this entry in The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language.

Ahhh. I see. I dislike it when people act like twats and then go "but I've got Asperger's!" If you really acted as a twat as a result of being Aspie then you wouldn't know that you needed to make an excuse for it. If you see my logic.

Why thank you, how kind of you to notice :P
Though, I had a total fuckhead of a flatmate who was the Aspieest Aspie in the history of Asperger's and he didn't know it. At the time I didn't know what it was either, but I'm pretty sure if he'd had a diagnosis and knew how to deal with it, he wouldn't have been a fuckhead.

It's like I used to have a housemate with cerebral palsy, and he'd use that as an excuse for being a fuckwit, when he would have been a fuckwit even without a disability.

Oooh, if I'd met him he'd have been on the business end of a hissy-fit from me. A man I regard as my brother has severe cerebral palsy and is one of the most amazing, hardworking, generous, darkly witty people I have ever met, despite having had to deal with some pretty horrific stuff.
No, sometimes people are fuckwits because they have a problem and don't realise that they have it; but a lot of the time there's no excuse. I've had to modify my own behaviour because many of the various things wrong with me make me want to act in some plainly unacceptable ways; but mostly I know why I have those impulses and if I know it would be shitty behaviour, I stop myself doing it. It's not easy, but it's a lot easier than being a fuckwit and alienating people I care about.

this is probably true; one of my dearest friends was an undiagnosed Aspie for a very long time, and didn't know it, and his life has improved like 300% since the light was shone upon the issue.

Yup. Sometimes all you need to know is that there *is* a problem, so you can start dealing with it. I know my life's become easier since I found out I was Aspie, and it's easier for my girlfriend to understand and deal with me too. I can't imagine what my life would be like at the moment without knowing about it: we're currently having to live with her parents, and they'd find my behaviour very odd if I hadn't explained about being Aspie and printed off information that lets them know what to expect.
*hugs the internet*

ETYMOLOGY: Perhaps alteration of obstreperous.

This etymology seems hideously unlikely though.

http://www.livejournal.com/community/asperger/80208.html was the post where I found the best description of Aspie traits, after failing to find one as good as that elsewhere online - I went for the last one as the best one IMO. I copied it into Word, put all the traits that I have in bold, and all the ones I used to have but have overcome in italics, and have given it to several people. I find the whole asperger community here very helpful, if you trawl through it you'll find a lot of interesting and often helpful links. Also, there's this website: http://www.udel.edu/bkirby/asperger/ which I find has a lot of good links.
Hope that's helpful.
