Falling down like sheets.
Apr. 26th, 2004 01:13 amThe nipple piercing was temporarily kept open with nylon fishing line. I stopped by Piercing Urge on Friday for a replacement. They can't reliably source haematite beads any more, so I had to go for colour. My nipple now has ahahaha permanent blue balls. I may have to obtain a selection of colours and fluorescences for all occasions.
(It's not like I even have a good story about losing it. "How was your holiday?" "Lost a nipple ring." "Maaate!")
Friday evening and Saturday afternoon,
redcountess sorted through stuff at her mum's place. I got to the Travelex counter at Chadstone ten minutes too late to cash our remaining travellers' cheques (memo: Never set foot in Chadstone ever again for any reason whatsoever) so bought a Citylink weekend pass and took the tollway all the way from South Oakleigh to the airport (the only Travelex in Melbourne open on a weekend followed by a bank holiday). Twenty minutes. Worth every penny.
Saturday night I went to the Cornish Arms to see Mark and Rob Snarski. I saw their earlier knockout match in Perth in 1990. I think Rob won that night (
frou_frou disagrees), but this time out, as Mark Snarski put it: "I'm Muhammad Ali, and this is Sonny Liston. Good night."
Thence to Carmilla's for an evening's elder goth cattery with
severina_242. I had managed to lose the battery from the camera (this holiday's towering piece of bimbettery), so had to rely on my personality. It was a very quiet night as Covenant were playing. But we got to be appalled at the baby goths. We also heard the DJ make a fool of himself with vinyl records. Handy hint: don't knock a fifteen-gram club stylus across the record live. Also, when beatmixing, it's subtler to change speed two semitones over the course of the whole song rather than five seconds.
Hello also to
baralier, who walked past King Street club scum in a kilt. I was wearing PVC and mesh top and did get shouted at from a car by two girls in white. "Haaay, mate — awesome outfit!" Hot bog totty.
It's not cold out until you've got icicles hanging from your nipples.
Sunday we hoped to attend
raven_'s barbecue, but Liz was far too unwell. We had a quiet afternoon in and I met Lionel and his girlfriend Josie for a drink at the Builder's Arms. He showed off his photo portfolio, geeked cameras all night and lent me his old Canon S30 for Puffing Billy on Monday. *pint!*

Date: 2004-04-25 08:23 am (UTC)I've been thinking about this: it's entirely possible that Rob was more impressive all those years ago but thinking back it's Mark's performance that I remember - his versions of 'Like a Prayer' and 'Blue Valentine' were terrific. It was pre-Jackson Code so we didn't get to hear any of that material, just a bunch of personal favourites. Am I imagining it that Mark did 'Kerosene' and 'Crush the Lily' that night too?
Did I tell you that I tried to chat Mark up at the bar afterwards? The poor chap - I suspect he just wanted to be left alone to drink his beer but he was nice, if uninteresting enough. I'd throw him over if Rob would sing 'The Cross' for me one more time.
I have money and songlist to give you too - do you have a spare minute tomorrow (ie Monday) night for me to give them to you?
