Just some rustling clothes.
Aug. 24th, 2004 02:36 pmIt's been a hectic time indeed. Thursday evening was particularly
fun — after going to A&E with
arkady (accident at work)
and getting out of there at midnight, we were hassled on the bus by a rowdy
drunk on drugs, who then (a) took a swing at me (pissweak) and (b) tried to
steal Arkady's bag (she saw red). When the police showed up (originally called
by the conductor), they were quite keen for us to make statements and be prepared to show up
in court. They're going to do the dickhead for attempted robbery. I won't go
into further detail until after court, but it was certainly two major
evenings' worth of excitement. I got to bed at four and got up at seven.
Friday:
redcountess and I had a Quiet Night In with
pizza.
Saturday: Arkady and I went to the B-Movie Village Fete Of The
Damned. I got pics,
mostly of the bands (Swarf and Syaronosui,
rosiaconite's J-pop
band). You can also see
liz_lowlife and
godgirl being untoward with a plunger.
flickgc's accent slowly went Mancunian as she talked about Rosi.
cavalorn offered sage advice on monkeys. We left at
midnight, before the evening had worn out its welcome.
Sunday: The purchase of a suit jacket. The hardest part was finding something blazerish but not obnoxious — anything with three buttons leaves me looking like a taller Alexei Sayle at worst and a Russian Mafia thug at best. They did have some very nice jackets I would have been most pleased to own, but they looked far too much like the stuff I was used to seeing in op-shops (that's Australian for charity shop) in Perth for ten dollars. Paying full retail just seems wrong. And might leave one reluctant to take it to a smoky pub and spill beer on it. It's just not rock'n'roll.
Monday: Day off work ill. I did get the dishes done at last.
Tuesday: I forgot my tie this morning. So I dashed out and bought the cheapest technically-tie object available. Polyester ties are the business equivalent of a hair shirt. I'll be leaving this one in the desk drawer as a warning to myself. Liz went out to look at a new flat — not amazing, but almost there! We need to give notice soon ...

Don't think they'd do so well now, what with her achieving 1st Dan in Ki-Aikido.

Date: 2004-08-24 01:41 pm (UTC)That was three-and-a-half years ago. But not all buses have CCTV nowadays, either, even at night. Not all of them have working CCTV, either. Crime and assaults on buses have gone down in London, but I'm not sure that CCTV played all that big a part. Any bus driver will tell you that radios and better police responses - hell, any police response - are a more important change from the 90's.
