When I slag off Britain it's either as someone who has made the place my home (in which case I have a personal interest. I am British by paperwork, after all), or as an Australian, and all Australians do in fact have an automatic right to slag off Britain (and particularly the English) for anything as long as they do it lovingly. And I love everyone, so that's easy.

Your main bitch about Britain usually entails mutterings about "land of malevolent dwarves".... more a heightist issue than slagging off Britain!

Does the paperwork actually enable one to bitch about stuff without people getting on one's case?

Because NO ONE WILL LISTEN TO ME.

(Hey, are you at the bofhbof on Saturday that I don't know the location of?)

I'm going. So you and yours should go.

(I have a British passport -- my father was born and raised here, thus.)

Britains crap. I can't wait for us to detach ourselves and make our way as an independent country within Europe. Taking our (rapidly running out) oil with us, natch.

I am reminded by this that we have never actually managed to meet. I assume this means that you're one of those annoying bastard tall people that hit their heads on some of the lintels in this hobbit-sized house we call home :)

When I slag off .au (primarily WA / Perth) it's as a result of spending time there with in-laws who seem to think the best way of getting someone to move out there is to scream from the rafters for the entire time how great WA is and horrible the UK is. Oh and change the subject when I actually run the numbers and confirm that the cost of living balances out and overall isn't that different (oh and my cost of living would be higher requiring aircon in the entire house, any cars and wherever I worked).

He says so. It's at the Cockpit, near Blackfriars (just up the hill from Goose at the Castle, off Quuen Vic Road (IIRC). About 5 minutes walk from Blackfriars tube/train station.

I didn't feel tall until I moved to the UK. It's a very odd feeling. I mean, I'm only a thumb over average height in the old country (3-7 cm, depending on time of day and how perky I am feeling).

Odd. I'm definitely of average height in both Canada and the UK.

Oh. You're Scandinavian, aren't you?

Aye. IIRC, average heigth for males is about 176 cm. Average for males born the same year as I was is, IIRC, 178 cm, so for a good solid while, I was (at 180-184 cm) *just* a smidgen over average and that's not noticeable ina crowd.
