Did Han really shoot first?
Dodgy London photographer warning. Remember: stay with the one you can trust.
Arkady's pics from our wedding are now up on my site.
MY NEW LAPTOP HAS SHIPPED AND WILL BE HERE TOMORROW OR FRIDAY! :-D \o/ Still looking around eBay for odds and sods. I am seriously contemplating several Frankenlappies just from the spare parts I can see.
Today I did two interviews for Wikipedia. The BBC one was for BBC Radio Wales Mousemat and covered English Wikipedia hitting a million articles and a big push for Welsh-speaking listeners to get on the Welsh Wikipedia, which has only four thousand articles and is a wide-open field to get in on the ground floor and make a really good Welsh encyclopedia. They recorded about 15 minutes, of which they'll probably use 5 or 6. I will also apparently get paid for my time. (Gosh!) It's running 5pm Sunday, repeated 6pm Wednesday. If you're not in Wales, it's on Sky TV channel 0117 or on the site for a week after broadcast.
The Guardian one will be in Monday's paper, in the "Office Hours" column in the Media section. This will be in the paper edition and may not go online. A reader had written in saying they'd read about Wikipedia's unreliability and asked if Wikipedia was any good. I said we weren't as good as Britannica as yet, but we were better than anything else on the web, so the more media we get saying how bad we are the more readers we get ... and office workers don't have the Britannica on their desk but they do have Wikipedia. The reporter also wanted to know if it was good for office workers at their desks; I pointed out that as an IT contractor, I use Wikipedia as a reference work daily. It's fabulous for computer and technical stuff, to quickly get yourself up to speed on what a piece of jargon is in 60 seconds. And Nature measured us as about equal to Britannica in science. Main message: we're not Britannica, but we're better than anything else readily available on the web right now. "We make the Web not suck."
I'm getting my breath back slowly. Today was the most exercise I've had in a week and a half. I was puffed, but it was the right thing. I may or may not be up to a smoky B-Movie on Friday, but if I am I have my cowboy hat.
Note: I'm still not really reading LiveJournal. Please alert me directly to anything important, invitations, etc.
Note 2: I'm loving being here with my girls.
