Étant donnés.

Everyone has a cold except me, I'm just tired. (And the older teenager, who is still spodding; presumably she will catch a computer virus.) Freda has a marvellous combination of coldy blah and energy.

Yesterday and today I had fun trying to install CentOS (a recompiled Red Hat) on a Sun X2200 which some idiot decided to save 50p on by not ordering it with a DVD drive. The kickstart installs to the disks in soft RAID-1, but GRUB didn't like that so it wouldn't boot. Before we got the right answer (PXEboot to the Red Hat rescue disk and run GRUB from there), I tried putting GRUB on by booting from a USB copy of Ubuntu. The Ubuntu help page lists various methods to put an Ubuntu install ISO onto a USB stick, and the only one that works is isotostick.sh. In particular, UNetbootin just doesn't bloody work. So take heed. And carry Ubuntu on a stick everywhere with you, you never know when you'll need to do a drive-by Linuxing.
