The network is now working fine. _nicolai_ popped over on Friday and pointed out that the fridge was between us and the wireless access point, so the wireless connection died every time it switched on or off. I moved the access point and it's now marvellously reliable. Ahem!

If you get a MALM bed, assemble it at the higher level, not the lower, no matter how thick your mattress is.

I am spending this afternoon tidying the place up, throwing away packing materials and putting stuff away. This evening, a date with arkady.
