reddragdiva: (domesticity)

The 40th birthday conspiracy against [livejournal.com profile] redcountess has come off marvellously. We are now camping out on eBay.

Thursday we had a quiet evening in with presents (23 names on a card good for a new Macintosh, the half-decent John Peel bio from me and one book on ballet and one on opera from [livejournal.com profile] arkady) and a cake whose first listed ingredient was sugar.

I have been off ill since Wednesday and will be late in on Monday as I am going for a blood test concerning the dizzy spells. (My blood pressure is apparently fine.)

Last night I helped [livejournal.com profile] arkady with her house — I did the dishes while she sorted the piles of clothing in her room. There is now visible floor.

This afternoon, a still unwell Liz and I are sitting in bed, laptopping side by side and eating crab paste with crackers. The crab paste is thoroughly mediocre, but somehow we're still gobbling it down. [livejournal.com profile] frou_frou and [livejournal.com profile] drzero are in town and we will be meeting up with them next week. As soon as we find a restaurant (or even a pub) with decent vegetarian offerings in Bloomsbury! Suggestions most welcomed!

Alas, I don't know exactly where the Jenkins is so I am just looking at the Bloomsbury/Fitzrovia area.

Square Meal doesn't list anything as exclusively veg (not even Chez Gerard ;) ) but there are a few Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Vietnamese, cuisines which often have a fair amount of veg options. There's also a mash restuarant, which may be promising.

However Square meal isn't really giving me all that much info about their menus (just a time out-esque blurb). I don't have Zagat but I think it would be better for this purpose.

If they were fish eaters there would be food in spades. 5 seafood places within Bloomsbury/Fitzrovia.

Ikkyu is near Goodge Street and has a fair amount of options if one is not vegan. (Veg sushi, tofu steak, lots of veg side dishes but they use butter on them etc. The tofu steak sometimes has egg with it.)

Also the British Museum restaurant (upstairs in the dome) always has at least one veg option, but that wouldn't necessarily leave them with much choice :(

There's also a lot of Pizza Expresses around, if all else fails.

no, it was someplace between arkady and crab paste. the comfortable shared domesticity of it all, or something.

There's a Wagamamas in Bloomsbury, but that's not really a place to linger over a meal and catch up with people. Lots of veggie options though.

We're going to try Chutney's near Euston station, which has some nice reviews on the 'Net.

spodding in bed together is what laptops were designed for :-)
