Woke up this morning, IRC and LJ were going batshit. [livejournal.com profile] redcountess, [livejournal.com profile] arkady and I are all fine — we live in Walthamstow, several miles out of the city centre and nearly in Essex. Guess I won't be going into Camden today after all.

The Metropolitan Police Casualty Bureau Number is 0870 1566 6344. This is for reporting people missing, not for getting answers — they're just logging data for now.

Large chunks of the mobile network are down, jammed or have been diverted for emergency use. If you text people, they probably can't answer straight away. I'll reply when it's up again!

See also [livejournal.com profile] london_070705. There's a couple of posts there to check in and say you're OK: large roll call, A-M, N-Z. Please go in and list yourself and anyone else you know is OK.

Update 2: If you're outside London and want to help (and aren't a filthy leprous pervert of some sort, like me), go and give blood. All the spare blood will be getting rushed toward London for a little while.

That number is actually for the British Transport Police, for people concerned whether friends or relatives may be casualties.

The Metropolitan Police Casualty Bureau Number is: 0870 1566 6344. This should be used for reporting details of people you beleive to be missing. They won't be able to give you an answer on the phone, instead they just log the info for matching later as casualty, survivor and evacuee reports come in.

I just heard - and my first impulse was to check if you, Liz and arkady were okay (wipes brow) I've been standing in front of the TV in horror saying 'Fuck' for about 15 minutes.

I'm shocked, but I guess the underground was a obvious target. Eeek. You kids take care of yourselves - I'm thinking of you, and worried about you.

To be honest I was actually expecting a tube attack as part of 9/11. I watched the planes hitting and part of my brain was going. "Ok good opening move, what's next", the logical move then would be to hit the tube as everyone started running for home.

Hopefully things will be more stable by next week when I'm due in docklands :/

My first thought was actually wondering if a dirty bomb hadn't been one of the explosions. Paralyze mass transit, so people will sit and cook.

Good to know you're ok.

Is it ghoulish to think of throwing a "Haha! You didn't get me terrorists!!!" party?

Ghoulish? Not at all. It is an act of defiance, a celebration of life.

They shut down the D.C. Metro on 9/11 for just that reason -- problem was, that stranded all the subway commuters in the city, so we were all in our office buildings nervously watching the sky and calling our kids' daycare centers to let them know we'd be late . . . (I was working close to the White House at the time).

Best of luck to all in getting home safely . . .
