  • God Bless America (courtesy [livejournal.com profile] jwz). Just wait till they get on reality TV, it'll be wall-to-wall this sort of thing.

  • You are obviously not SUPPORTING THE SCENE and are PERSONALLY ATTACKING THE WGW ORGANISERS if you show unwillingness to gobble their holy gothic faeces with a big enough smile. Jesus fucking wept. Is there any reason to let these people near your money ever again?

[livejournal.com profile] arkady is back! Happy, relaxed and utterly buggered. We came home from Paddington last night to pizza and collapse. She went straight to work this morning (only five days of her eleven off were paid). Silly girl.

Today appears to be hay fever day. It's FUCKING NOVEMBER.

Tonight we go to see Neil Gaiman being interviewed by Lenny Henry, who apparently did the audiobook version of Anansi Boys. I really hope the signing queue isn't as awful as Pratchett's. (Some hope.)

Saturday night I went to Slimes, showing off the waist clincher, which got nice reactions from sxxy deth chyx I didn't know with fabulous breasts. Spent ages talking about relationships with [livejournal.com profile] ali_anarres. She and [livejournal.com profile] daneel_olivaw were being cute again. Also long geek babble with [livejournal.com profile] melston and a chat with [livejournal.com profile] crystalfayre. I left around four. Sunday I was half-trashed all day, but did manage to get at least a bit of stuff done.

Who is going to B-Movie on Friday?

I was actually slightly tempted to go to Whitby in April - now I think it's safe to say that I'm not.

Lenny Henry's a good mate of Neil - he's checked in the acknowledgements to Neverwhere. Enjoy! Try to get his phone number for me!

See, it's precisely Jo's attitude that disinclines me from ever attending Whitby again - that and the incresingly rip-off prices for tickets and the whole debacle at the Spa in April. Now she's fucked up over dates, but woe betide anyone who points out she's slipping up. We're all supposed to fall down and worship at her feet for the fact she deigns to continue with WGW, when the truth is that the evidence is overwhelmingly pointing to the fact that she couldn't organise a piss-up in a brewery right now. It's a major event, and she's running it as a little back-bedroom concern - and it just isn't working.

How has she "fucked up over dates"? Do you reckon she phoned up the Moor and Coast people and asked them to move their festival back a week for a laugh?

Apropos of nothing

This is the first time I've actually recognised the lyric fragment in your subject quote in a long time.

October's always going to be Wales for my daughter's birthday anyway. But to be honest, I did Whitby twice and enjoyed it - but after the way things have gone downhill in the past 18 months, to be honest it's tainted how I perceive Whitby. And it seems increasingly more and more people - previously "Whitby regulars" - are opting to give it a miss. In the past, the Hallowe'en weekend was a wilderness on LJ and IRC as there was a massive decampment to Whitby - but this year you'd have been hard pressed to tell the difference.

There are other events I'd rather attend, where the organisers don't feel the need to bad-mouth every customer who has a legitimate complaint over the way they've mishandled things.

At the end of the day, if you're not going to the Spa then how precisely is Whitby any different than going on a holiday to the seaside with a bunch of your mates for the weekend?

Perhaps it's time to get Clear Channel to run it?

Everyone's entitled to be defensive when they are criticised for things that aren't actually their fault. Issues such as communication are being worked on in the wake of the last WGW, and when things are communicated the WGW team get slagged off anyway.

It's all very well trying to look oh-so-clever and tripping people up on their words, but most of the people that actually do this couldn't organise a night Upstairs at the Garage.

I'll toast the day that 1,000+ people head up to a hard-to-get-to seaside town on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors when there's no festival there!

actually, if you look at it, Moor and Coast have not moved their dates - their festival is always May Day. she simply forgot to check the dates, and May Day and the last w/e in april are one and the same this year.
anyways, i thought you were done with the goth scene - stop it! :P people will think you're a goth!

*shrug* See, this is where you and I differ. The people I actually consider to be real friends are the ones that are close by, that I interact with on a weekly basis. I enjoy interacting with a wider group of people online, but I need more of a connection to warrant travelling several hundred miles on the offchance of meeting them. There used to be enough in Whitby and WGW itself to warrant the journey, but there isn't any more - and quite frankly hanging around the Elsi with a bunch of people I barely know palls very quickly.

i love you. that's me done with buying spa tickets for the forseeable future, BTW. i can get drunk at the Elsi for free, and without getting abuse from anyone i've paid for the privilege.

Hmmm, well they've never done anything wrong be me all these years. And the business of reducing Spa capacity has Local Authority written all over it in big fun-destroying letters. I'm glad its Jo organising Whitby and not me - I'd have gone postal long ago. Dead goth splatter fest on CCTV!
