My birthday drinks: Sunday, Oakdale Arms, 4pm.

I think it'll be Sunday 4pm at the Oakdale Arms, N4 1NP. This is really badly located for the Tube, slightly less for trains, better for buses and I'll be getting a minicab. But the Oakdale Arms is worth it, particularly if you like real beer or real cider. It's run by timeplease, who Cambridge geeks may know from his former life as a computer science academic. And it has no large screens showing sport.

Valentine's was lovely — an evening in with redcountess (and failing to make the laptop work) on Monday and coffee, dinner and pub with arkady on Tuesday. Liz's new tiny little dollie, Valentina, arrived Tuesday as well. She's a proper ball-jointed resin doll, but she is SO LITTLE.

I'm finally backing up my computers. There's a shop in Hoe Street that sells nothing but blank CDs and DVDs. I got a 50 DVD-R spindle for £9.

Er, the Oakdale does have a wind-down projector screen. However, the side of the pub furthest from the entrance is free of the taint of sport.
