I've worked out how to do the DVD backups: boot the Mac into Ubuntu and mount the SMB share with smbmount. VLC doesn't hiccup then either, suggesting it is in fact a weird interaction between Mac OS X and Samba. (Although it works perfectly on the PowerBook.) Burnt one, burning another as we speak. I've also mounted the OS X and OS 9 partitions on Ubuntu and have downloaded ext2fsx to mount the Linux partition on OS X.

Tonight were two parties, but I shall be taking the opportunity for a date with arkady and going to Slimelight. Three-floor special. Anyone else?
