More later on a lovely night out at the Dev with [livejournal.com profile] arkady. In the meantime, [livejournal.com profile] redcountess had noticed that Jake the rat was extremely distressed. When we got in, Arkady ascertained he'd had a second stroke. He's currently almost unable to move and having small fits; if he lasts the weekend, I fear we'll be taking him to be put down Monday morning. His brother Elwood is very upset and even the cats can tell we're not happy and are being very subdued. I am very glad Arkady got to live with Jake in his last few weeks.

Update, 2:34pm: He went this morning around 11am, with Arkady cuddling him. She put him back in the cage for Elwood to sniff him and will be burying him later. Elwood is still okay, if a little old and slow, and will be getting plenty of cuddles. (As it happens, we're having a whole roast chicken for dinner tonight, and will just have to add four slices of dry white toast.)

Best wishes for both of the boys and all of you.

I'm glad Arkady & you guys were able to give them a good home, and I'm sure Jake feels loved and cared for. I'm sorry I didn't get to meet him in person.

Give Jake and Elwood some cuddles from me.

Poor Jake! We've lost a couple of ratties to strokes and it's so sad to watch them go that way. But Jake is surrounded by love and snuggles and his going will be easy for him. Sending ratty love to Elwood, it's never easy for the one left behind.

Is this a common health thing with rats? :( I don't know Jake and I am sad about it :(

Sorry you guys have to go through this and here's some hugs from me for you all *hugs*. I hope it's not too prolonged for him if that's the way it's going to go, good luck otherwise xoxox

RIP little Jake. He's was a cutie and I'm glad his last moments involved being cuddled :(

How sad, yet probably a moving and memorable moment. I am sure he felt safe in her arms.
