Second interview this morning at the place I saw Monday. I'm one of two. No word as yet. I grabbed a dozen Krispy Kremes from Victoria; [livejournal.com profile] redcountess is less than thrilled, and I must say all I can taste is sugary lard.

After too little sleep (though the culprit made up for it later this morning with some job leads) and a lot of walking around this afternoon, [livejournal.com profile] arkady and I are Utterly Buggered and not up to Inferno. I was going to wear blue and black stripy tights and steal everyone's soul with my beautiful little camera. How very annoying. Cheers and good luck to [livejournal.com profile] allezbleu for her DJ spot!

My laptop now has a working Compaq W200 wifi module in its lid. It takes a bit of beating (why Ubuntu doesn't just include the module ...) and some extra kicking after a suspend, but I'm enormously pleased. We have resolved, though, no more eBay where the seller doesn't take PayPal and their English is about as good as my German. He really earned that "good communicator" feedback.

(Mind you, if the wifi ever fails, that's just a USB connector, so I could theoretically put anything whatsoever in there. Hmm.)

I now have WINE running on the household server. So that's a hand-compiled WINE on FreeBSD controlled via VNC or remote X from an Ubuntu laptop. I just need to get the Mac in the chain.

(We're gadgeted entirely up now. I'm still stalking a few favourites in search of a great deal — the thrill of the chase — but my heart's not in it. I feel purposeless. I should probably get a job.)

I need to get the words flowing. The Uncyclopedia writing competition is on and I was specifically told I wasn't allowed to judge because they wanted me to enter. So I've said I'll write some towering tastelessness to leave Cancer Porn in the dust, as well as a piece that someone might not actually spork their brain out at. Must get to work. Arkady and I came up with the start of a routine about green neon ninjas this afternoon.

PuTTY is not derived from OpenSSH... (Granted quite often the thing it's talking to will be OpenSSH's server.)

Shame, it's going to be my first foray into a London goth club for as long as I can remember, would have been good to see you.

Amazing the things that can be inspired by the chance sight of a Kawasaki motorbike. I'm still bemused by the fact that just about every Suzuki Bandit I've ever seen was black, whereas the Kawasaki Ninjas were all bright green. Suzuki got it right; Kawasaki got it oh so wrong.

Mind you, that's the only good word I have to say about Suzukis; I still maintain they sound like a pissed off hornet in a biscuit tin.

Mmmmmm, sugary lard! It's dee-licious.

Did you ever finish writing the Cat Piss Man article for Uncyclopedia? I've been looking for it.

I buy the OpenBSD CDs and t-shirt every time, and always feel a bit guilty about not actually using it. (it's the poor state of the ports tree and updates that puts me off).

Now, I'm usually pretty easy-going about open source asking for money...

... but Theo can suck my rod.

Fuck them all. I can write a better implementation of same if they go away.
