I answer phones in the middle of the night in case of an actual emergency that requires urgent action right at that moment that cannot wait until later. PR disasters don't fit that. If someone is about to make wikis illegal, and there is a clear course of action I can take at 5am that will be too late at 9am, that might be enough reason to wake me. Or I might put Arkady on the line. I am reasonably certain that large parts of the UK Cabal agree on this one.
(I wonder if that counts as a "cryptic post.")
This week I am down with bloke flu, meaning a streaming head cold where I complain every five minutes about how ill I feel. redcountess now has it and Arkady, of course, has her arm in a sling. She finally went to A&E after nagging from everyone. Chipped bone, no actual fracture, bruised nerve; sling for a week, exercises after two. Just in time to move house!
So that's Whitby flu without going to Whitby. Or Lanzarote. Happy birthday to gothicbarbiecat, happy holidays to everyone helping her celebrate. Blurgh.
Note: If you're stuck in some sort of trouble I can help with at 5am, I'd much rather you called than didn't — and some of you have, and I'm glad you did rather than, e.g., freeze under a bridge. That's different ...
