Much thanks to [livejournal.com profile] hirez. I'll see what I can achieve in return.

I answer phones in the middle of the night in case of an actual emergency that requires urgent action right at that moment that cannot wait until later. PR disasters don't fit that. If someone is about to make wikis illegal, and there is a clear course of action I can take at 5am that will be too late at 9am, that might be enough reason to wake me. Or I might put Arkady on the line. I am reasonably certain that large parts of the UK Cabal agree on this one.

(I wonder if that counts as a "cryptic post.")

This week I am down with bloke flu, meaning a streaming head cold where I complain every five minutes about how ill I feel. [livejournal.com profile] redcountess now has it and Arkady, of course, has her arm in a sling. She finally went to A&E after nagging from everyone. Chipped bone, no actual fracture, bruised nerve; sling for a week, exercises after two. Just in time to move house!

So that's Whitby flu without going to Whitby. Or Lanzarote. Happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] gothicbarbiecat, happy holidays to everyone helping her celebrate. Blurgh.

Note: If you're stuck in some sort of trouble I can help with at 5am, I'd much rather you called than didn't — and some of you have, and I'm glad you did rather than, e.g., freeze under a bridge. That's different ...

You /could/ not answer the phone.
Well, if you didn't have family in other timezones....
No, people are stupid, cryptic or not.

....and people ask me why the hell I don't have a public mobile anymore!!!

You have every right to a good night's sleep.

Nothing pisses me off more (well, ok, being stalked was worse) than nightcallers.

Agree people shouldn't be calling in the night except in case of real emergency.

I tend to cautious about who gets my telephone numbers and I always leave my mobile in the living room/turn it to silent so that the only way to wake me is to call my landline.

I've been known to answer the phone out of a dead sleep with an Exorcist-sounding voice . . . "THIS HAD BETTER BE FUCKING GOOD."

I evidently frightened a few people by doing this . . . but very few people call me in the early mornings anymore ;>

Hope that ALL of you are feeling better soon!!

*mwah!*

Last time Michael tried calling me at 2am, I growled into the phone "You have precisely 5 seconds to come up with a really good excuse as to why I should not eviscerate you right here and now with the bluntest, rustiest spoon I can find."

I get really nasty when my sleep has been disturbed. Hence the threat to pass such calls over to me; you can guarentee it wouldn't happen more than the once.
