Bastard computers. (spit) I entered apt-get update; apt-get dist-upgrade yesterday and have finally beaten Ubuntu into upgrading from Breezy to Dapper Beta. A few package conflicts meant xfonts-base didn't upgrade properly. And it lost most of GNOME (which I keep around for the apps). I should report a bug, but I didn't keep track of it all. Anyway, I've beaten X into starting, reinstalled the internal wifi driver and am now restoring my missing apps. I would suggest anyone who isn't a sysadmin stick with Breezy for now, which is still pretty damned good. (And I still have a box of CDs here.)

That said, Dapper has the latest of t3h sh1ny. I'm going to enjoy using it.

The Ixus 50 mentioned in the previous post arrived this morning, as did an Ixus 400. The 400 is reputedly one of the finest Ixus ever made for picture quality; arkady has been using it at length for doll photostory shoots today and getting excellent results. A good digital camera is one where you have to do almost no work at all other than actually taking the pictures; fiddling with pictures afterwards is just a pain in the arse, makes me take ages to bother getting shots up and is enough reason to my mind to avoid cameras that don't do it for you.

bmovie Friday! And quiet000001 is coming down Thursday and staying till Saturday, and she and redcountess are coming to B-Movie if I have to stretcher them in.

Dapper? Jeez, I just upgraded to Breezy a few weeks ago. I went from Ubuntu to Kubuntu as well. I still need to clear the old Gnome stuff from the menus though.

I just today had a hell of a time running a dist-upgrade on my debian unstable box; oddly enough, the problem was with xfonts-base (which was clashing with xfonts-encodings). Not being much of a debian wizard I floundered around for a while before managing to get it done by removing xfonts-base and reinstalling it after everything else finished. Was that anything like what happened to you?
