Someone called the house claiming to be "Claire Wheaton" from "Morgan Banks" following up a call to me about public sector employment "the other day" and demanding my date of birth, nationality and ethnicity from [livejournal.com profile] redcountess. I can't actually find a UK recruiter called Morgan Banks or a combination thereof at all (though I've found the Australian one). What the hell? Pointers welcomed.

Liz and [livejournal.com profile] arkady are heroic geniuses and put a holding deposit on the house we really want. Will be available early September, which should give us a just about two weeks' overlap. Fingers crossed!

Liz is doing enormously better of late on the low GI diet, having managed to (a) go out and look at a house (b) go down the pub with Arkady afterwards (c) survive a pub lunch and a luvverly luvverly gin and tonic (d) visit the doctor after that. And is losing weight fast as well as gaining energy. This is utterly wonderful and I am enormously proud of her.

[livejournal.com profile] eyeliner297 visited last night and we had a large pile of chili beans. And I nagged her to get her copiously fucked-up ankle seen to. If others could as well, up to and including carting her off bodily, please do.

This morning I finally got to Wimbledon to get my Victorian driver's licence exchanged for a UK one. Should be three to five weeks. Driving to Octiber Whitby.

Oh, dear. Helen Flanagan's publicity photo from her role as Rosie Webster in Coronation Street. That makes it so much more believable.

The Emo article is the funniest thing I've read in ages! Thanks for posting. Hmm.. the writer's name is interesting if you live in Melbourne :)

my Victorian driver's licence

I had a double take on this -- licenced to drive a hackney carriage?

Emo link:

Oh the scary. They've said all that stuff about self harm before, about goths. It always pisses me off; the idea that if you see goths/emos with cuts or scars you should ignore it because it's a fashion statement, and equally the idea that to fit into the goth/emo community you have to self harm.

Oh bugger!
I think I may have just left a ranty comment on the Daily Mail's website. Now see what you've made me do.

It may be completely unrelated, but there's a group of identity thieves ringing round people pretending to be from the Lost and Stolen department of banks. Definitely affects more than just HSBC customers.

You haven't had your wallet nicked lately, have you? My other half had hers lifted about 2 months ago, and a couple of weeks back someone rang up "from HSBC" (checked, a lie) trying to "take her through security" (date of birth and mother's maiden name) because they'd got her stolen cards back. Apparently it's a known thing, but there's nothing HSBC can do.

Just a thought.

Morgan and Banks are a recruiting firm in the Middle-East and Asia Pacific, but not here from what I can find on Google. Still, they now have his date of birth, nationality and race, and I also told them who he was working with. I really wish I had been more awake.

Such is life. With only the DOB, even if they are in fact malicious, they've not enough to do anything with.

My initial interpretation of "Morgan Banks" was Morgan Stanley, and they give credit cards out like confetti. Probably nothing to worry about, though.

Loved the emo article. Here we go again. Though I did hunt up the "Emo Kid" song which was mildly amusing.

One governor of a famous boarding school told me that it was as serious a problem as binge drinking, but rarely discussed for fear of encouraging more girls to do it.

Because we all know that not talking about something makes it magically disappear....

*le sigh*
