The HR muppets have still not sent the actual offer letter. The boss' boss got on the case - apparently, the wrong person in HR is on holiday - and at the very least I now know where, when, who to ask for and what to bring with me. And the offer letter - that is to say, my employment contract - should arrive by Friday. Probably.

I also have to sort out other little details with HR, like when I actually get paid, and obtaining a suitable 'this guy works for us' letter from them to hit banks over the head with so I can get a fucking bank account. FUCK ME! I think Kafka was actually British, and his stories were all allegories for trying to get a FUCKING bank account here ... But I'm afraid to hit HR with two requests at once, because then their fuzzy little branes will explode and everything will take even longer. Bless their cotton heads!

Have you tried going to the Halifax? I was able to open a bank account there (actually, at the Bank of Scotland, but it's the same thing) without a job. You'll get a Solo card rather than Switch until you can provide proof of employment, though.

Sufficient proof of address seems to have been the problem so far. However, the employer's letter has worked for others.

I take it your name is not on any bills, then? Bring a flatmate with you holding a bill of theirs; that should work.
