2lb percussive maintenance tool, please.
Sep. 11th, 2002 04:02 pmThe main actual work I do in a day is keeping the daily backups in order, i.e. being a tape monkey. Over the weekend the tape jukebox decided to fuck up (one of the drives went south), meaning the weekend full backup wasn't finished by Monday morning. It finished Tuesday afternoon. We managed to extract the tape from the buggered drive, then I got to deal with an appeasement engineer (dressed up nice, with a tie and everything). Who told me it must have been a dodgy tape. No? Then it must be because we're using Networker on Solaris. No? The other Unix admin LARTed him with the full history of the jukebox and he checked the power supply and realised it was fading much as we had thought. Maybe next week will go smoothly.
Today my boss mistook me for a porter. I disabused him of this notion forthwith. One of the NT admins got to do the heavy lifting instead. Two Sun boxes with two 21" monitors each. Ha.
(The Sun boxes the scientists use have two monitors each. So you can tell who in management is a wanker because they have a PC, but they have a gratuitous second monitor.)
