My job-title includes "engineer" of the non-engineering variety. Fortunately, the relevant scientific gut feelings can be taught:

1. All machines suck and are out to get you.
2. Threats work if and only if you know precisely what technical measures you will take if the machine does not behave, down to and including reducing it to scrap.

Alternately, you could work tech support in Kuwait.

All machines suck and are out to get you.

I firmly believe that machines sense fear. I am really pretty good with most types of computing task. The two things which give me fear and loathing are:
1) Printers
and
2) Macintoshes.

Whenever I encounter these, inevitably something brain-straining happens that I just can't cope with. Intellectually, I know that printers are no harder to deal with than any other peripheral... (that is possibly also true of Macs) but in actuality, they fuck me over every time.
