Loving you is strange.

Your $4000 camera does not make you Ansel Adams. Start with a crappycam and work your way up.
Part of the joy of not sharing a house any more is reading stories like this.

The house is almost presentable and the spare room almost has enough space for the new folding bed. (So where are these teenagers?) Freda has been the little terror one would expect from genetics; she is currently waving two bits of sparkly organza around (one pink, one black) and stamping up and down with a look of great concentration and occasional grunts of exertion.
arkady has finally finished the damn doll dress.
redcountess is upstairs cackling at the George Dyson video.
I am getting down the Pembury some time after six.
damned_colonial will be there 6:30pm (assuming the train is on time) and would like to see people. Send more geeks!

Date: 2008-08-17 07:05 pm (UTC)Cameras:
I love cheap cameras. Even the worst digicams can give you fantastic photos (though nothing like as nice as a cheap film camera, even a wretched cartridge or disc model), and cheap film cameras are often the greatest of abre-bones tools. I still have an awful cheap tourist camera I inherited from my grandfather that has a special (optional) exposure frame in it (and a reset advance wheel) that takes twice as many photos per roll, because it frames them at half the regular size. It's fun. it has a tiny lens and the basic set of aperture and exposure controls. It always gets me odd looks when I bother to take film in to get it developed, and at least five times the tech has begged me to sell it to them.
We have a fancy camera now - for us - it's a Cybershot. I mostly like it for taking videos of the kids, landscape photos and still shots of my work. It's superior to my older cheaper snapshot cameras mainly in that I get more control, so we've basically paid extra to get a digicam with about as much control as a decent low-end film camera (this seems to be an "extra feature") and a big, pretty lens.

Maybe there is a Law of Crazy Attraction.
