Now playing: Thirsty's Calling by the Moodists, one of the finest albums on Earth.

After yesterday off, I dragged myself into work, and have just been sent home from work ill. This NEVER happens. I'll be showing tomorrow if I'm 110%, I think.

Madam has been missing a few days, and is now back! Found by a neighbour in their yard. Nasty abcess on her head, looking at £220-260 for the vet tomorrow. Ow. Looovely kitty. She's sitting on my chest, all purring and happy, and also stinking of draining abcess. Ew.

Update: Just played both Cleopatra Wong EPs. That they were roundly ignored could have been music industry sexism, or that they had no songs and were first compared to the two incredible songwriters who had fired them. Memo: musicians must be kept on a short leash at all times. Now playing the Go-Betweens J-Files from 2000.

Update 2: Although the 2002 Amanda Brown solo album is a bit better.

I usually look after the abcess myself by smearing it with large amounts of honey.

Perhaps you might like to know: I am engaged in intensive and satisfying practical research into techniques for telling IT recruiters to fuck off in a way that, to the greatest possible extent, causes them to question the quality of their life choices, while still being suitable for polite company (which is to say, not sysadmins). (The telling, that is, not the fucking.)

Meanwhile, I'm admiring the low standards that the UK seems to have for its Tier 1 visa program, inasmuch as they would seem to include me, at least until something drastic happens with the exchange rate.

Damn, been way too long since I heard Thirstys Calling, and I don't own a copy. I do, however, own one of the Cleopatra Wong EPs, and yeah, forgettable.

I've been listening to the Laughing Clowns today. And, for some reason, was humming the Go-Betweens all morning. There is a series that has been on SBS here about great Australian albums - the one about 16 Lovers Lane was excellent, and gave a lot of insight into the emotional dynamics inside the band at the time.

I've always thought that Lindy Morrison was a great drummer, despite not being much of a songwriter.
