Freda still has a cold, [livejournal.com profile] redcountess is having a fibro flare (missed Paradise Lost and My Dying bride last night because of it, booo) and [livejournal.com profile] arkady is exhausted. I feel pretty good now I've slept and had two cups of coffee. We need to blitz the house. My old friend Anne from Perth twenty years ago just got in touch via Facebook, which proves its value once again. She hasn't changed a dot. Still hardly reading LJ, do feel free to recite everything you've written there if we see each other in person.

Most annoying thing at work in the last week is looking for a Nagios NRPE 2 plugin for Windows that reports swap and physical memory separately. And Apache 1.3, which is evil and stupid. (I've sent the ticket back on the grounds that they've put a live service on the dev box in question and touching the httpd.conf in any way seems to break it.)

Liz's TiBook broke both hinges; some time or other we'll try to transplant its guts into the shell of the dead one from [livejournal.com profile] purplecthulhu (cheers matey). In the meantime the dead N410c appears not to be dead, so we put a fresh Kubuntu Hardy on it and it's doing well so far.

Freda is almost forming words now. She says "bum!" And can point to her bum! I am the proudest daddy ever.

Not only does she say "bum!", she also knows where her bum is - important skill, that. ;-)

I've usually found a fair chunk of what you might usually do in a shell script is there, but you have to go through horrible horrible contortions to get it. *shudders* Our product decided (ten years ago, mind) to say bollocks to batch files and install a private copy of Perl instead.

Ah, how handy! A shame we can't force our customers to be as sensible...
