Springwatch.

[personal profile] arkady, Freda and I are on holiday in darkest Wiltshire, staying at my aunt's house in Trowbridge with my mum and dad. It's authentic English spring, i.e. pissing down all this week.

Yesterday we went to Avebury to see the standing stones. Freda got carsick repeatedly because we didn't dose her with phenergan, but did like the swampy pond with the nesting moor hens and the paddock of sheared and numbered sheep, in which we played sheep poop lotto.

Today we went to the Roman Baths museum in Bath. It's £12.50 each per adult, but you can see they're spending the money well. Ridiculously popular even when it's bucketing down. Freda was amazed that the water was actually warm.

My dad is a gadget nut, so got himself a new EOS 550D, which he's going to do bugger-all with, and gave me his surplus Lumix FH-5, which is bright pink. One day I might leave the house and use it for something.

I would like to spend time just quietly reading through the books and listening to the several gigabytes of music I've put on my phone and laptop (I think more than an actual week's playing time), but Freda keeps nicking my laptop to play dinosaur flash games and then demanding I show her how to play them.

Avebury... Weird place, the locals all pretend these HUGE sarsen stones aren't there. Me, I think the stones move when you're not looking.

They sneak up on unsuspecting tourists and photobomb pagan handfastings just for shits and giggles.

Avebury is awesome, went there back in 2009. If you're anywhere near Salisbury cathedral, it's worth a visit.
