Engagement pishup at the pr0terhouse went wonderfully. Serious beer nerd HEAVEN. You would not believe the beer selection at this place. It's the London branch of a Dublin brewery pub. They have der beers of der vorldt available. And it's ALL GOOD. The food is not such a good idea if you don't eat meat, though. But the food is so very far from the point, and you could probably live on just the beer anyway. The architecture is also, um, interesting - evidently inspired by rat mazes, Escher drawings and a few too many An Brainblástas. Can you find the piece of cheese?

A suitable admixture of goths, gofhs and BOFHs, in rough order of appearance (I'm sure I've missed at least one and will be corrected in a comment): myself, [livejournal.com profile] ladylilith, [livejournal.com profile] ali_anarres, [livejournal.com profile] kitty_goth, [livejournal.com profile] crispygoth, Matthew Byng-Maddick, Matthew Garrett, Chris Adams, [livejournal.com profile] gothstevek and [livejournal.com profile] silverfiligree (in a luscious black velvet dress), [livejournal.com profile] shevek (in beard-gone-after-many-years shocker) and [livejournal.com profile] ewtikins (with flashing blue earrings), [livejournal.com profile] ickle_yuki (in the corset of the day ... no-one will remember your face), [livejournal.com profile] inulro and Jason, Moray (a spare BOFH), [livejournal.com profile] sheridanwilde, Banshee, [livejournal.com profile] androktone and [livejournal.com profile] hythloday, [livejournal.com profile] princesssulky, [livejournal.com profile] erzibet, [livejournal.com profile] cybermuppet and [livejournal.com profile] phaseboy, [livejournal.com profile] childeric and [livejournal.com profile] shekhmet. Certainly enough for the party to go off, and, having told them twenty to thirty would show, I think the pub should at least quite like us. If you failed to make that list, you missed out.

Cheers to Banshee for the mirror (now hanging in our stairwell), [livejournal.com profile] gothstevek and [livejournal.com profile] silverfiligree for the lovely card, and a special round of applause to Chris Adams for buying the champagne! (And a lollipop to [livejournal.com profile] kitty_goth and MBM for the first beery geek argument of the day: how X.509 and S/MIME are the work of the crap Satan, the main point of dispute being to what degree they are the work of the crap Satan.)

Liz and I took photos, which one hopes will be developed before the Moon falls out of the sky. I still have undeveloped rolls from February, so might be a bit too crap for this. [livejournal.com profile] gothstevek and [livejournal.com profile] crispygoth were snapping away as well, however (anyone else?), so we might have some joy from those quarters sooner.

Afterwards to Ask in Camden for food, then to the Dev to drink the night away again. [livejournal.com profile] ladylilith went home with a bad case of Dev anoxia, so I hung out at the end table with the luvverly [livejournal.com profile] shekhmet and the party dregs, plus [livejournal.com profile] blankinfinity who finally showed. (Work. What kind of an excuse is that?) [livejournal.com profile] ali_anarres and I stumbled home at 11pm. I left my touchy-feely shirt behind. Must give them a call this afternoon.

Liz is going back to Australia on Thursday night. I am very upset by this! I will hide her under my bed so I can keep her. Except there isn't an under my bed as such, because it's just a mattress on the floor. Bah. Anyone want to come to see her off at the airport? Current plan is that I will meet her at Paddington at 6:30pm and we'll Heathrow Excess it and have food and drink in the terminal before packing her off through the security gate. I realise the Excess is well-named pricewise, but fifteen minutes versus an hour by tube is hard to argue against.

I should write up Christmas, but then again I've yet to write up Whitby part two. I'm sure my public will find out what they need to know. Spent Friday at work despite cold, Saturday in bed. Here's to the restorative powers of a pasta sauce bloody loaded with garlic. Woke up this morning at 4:30am and couldn't get back to sleep properly, so am currently jonesing for brains. LET ME SLEEP, OH DEAR GOD PLEASE LET ME SLEE*clunk*

Update: Just called the Dev - no shirt. Bugger. It was in the pile of coats near the end table - did one of you lot pick it up? Black button-up shirt, Atelier label.

Others' party reports: Liz, Chris B, Steve K, Filigree, Yuki, Perdita, Erzibet, Sulky, Shevek.

Good to hear that you had fun; apologies from [livejournal.com profile] ejde and myself for not turning up... I'm recovering from something nasty and [livejournal.com profile] ejde wasn't that good on Sunday morning either :(

You both look so happy. I look forward to seeing more pics as they get put up. Congrats once again to both of you : D

We are so far planning a night in and trying to pick each other up. I think we're in with a chance ;-)

And on the other side of the world in a caravan far far away, an identical plan exists for a certain Miss and Mr Havisham. I think I have the same odds as you two do. Yay!

Congratulations & so forth.

Regarding the Heathrow Excess, it certainly lives up to its name.

But the check in desks in Paddington Station make up for it.
No queueing, don't have to transport baggage around the airport, and because you can check in before the desks open at the airport it's a whole lot easier to get a seat with leg room.
Absolutely lovely.

Sorry I couldn't make it; I did get back to Kentish Town from St.Albans at about 8pm, but was suffering a rather nasty asthma attack so couldn't face the Dev. Michael was there though, and told me "some big blond guy" kept giving him evil looks. I happened to click on crispy's link to the photos and pulled up a shot of you just now, and Michael blurted out "That's the guy!!"

Given that Michael was disgustingly drunk and was most likely being a right royal pain in the ass, I wouldn't blame you for giving him evils. :-)

Black top with a mesh top over it, probably black PVCs. Long black hair that needs the roots redoing badly....

Glad you enjoyed yourselves, I meant to actually stand up and go to talk to more people (and Liz! I think I only got time to admire her earrings!) but alcohol was making me slump. Was really glad to see so many people turned up, too.

I should point out that Banshee's lovely celtic mirror thingy is not in our stairwell (which sounds like we stuck it outside with the bicycles!) but on the wall of our landing!

/me does pouty face at only 3 more sleeps before I fly back to Melbourne.

getting to Heathrow

If you book a cab ahead you should be able to get one for about £30... less than it will cost to take both of you on the Heathrow Express, I think, and saves the hell of trying to get to Paddington from Hendon. Depends whether you want to take the tube back from Heathrow again, really... my preference is to sit on the Picadilly line until the coming of the Messiah, because at least then I don't have to change at King's Cross... anyway, I'm sure there are little 'blah blah blah to Heathrow Airport' cards somewhere in the kitchen.

Unfortunately James (http://www.livejournal.com/users/corsetboy) and I couldn't be there as we got far too munted and ended up in the Body Worlds Exhibition. Apologies for this, the intention to turn up was there! Remind me to buy you a congratulatory drink at a later date! Glad all went well.

Giving Liz a send off sounds a good idea ;)

I'll check my finances and make plans perhaps?
