SNOW!!!

This morning there was SNOW!!! all over the street and the cars. I took pictures and all.

And I went outside and there was SNOW!!! and it was SNOWING!!! On ME!!!

(If I ever get a car in the UK, I'll be buying it first thing in the morning in January to make sure it starts.)

Got to work and told cow-orker about seeing SNOW!!! for the first time at age thirty-six. He of course complained that there was bugger-all snow and this was hardly PROPER snow - really not enough to stick together a proper gravel-laden snowball or go tobogganing more than five inches. Bah. Whinging Poms. I'll stick 'em in a forty-degree Australian February and see if that helps 'em appreciate the wonders of nature. It was thirty-seven degrees in Melbourne yesterday.

(It's an Australian thing. See [livejournal.com profile] mircea on the subject too.)

You Aussies are so sweet this time of year! :)

SNOW!?! No snow here in Cambridge, just frozen frost over everything. Which is still quite kinda pretty, but nowhere near as cool as SNOW!!

Of course, having been here over three years already, I'm completely blase about snow. Been there, done that, made snowmen and snow angels and thrown snowballs and now I'm over it. Really.

Want SNOW! *jealous*

Want snow ? Holiday in Boston in January.

We've had several feet of snow already this winter. Unfortunately the only pictures I can find from this year were taken outside the actual city, so they got more, but it gives you the general idea;

Wah-hey! LOTS OF SNOW!!!

Aw Bless!

It's great to retain a childlike wonder at some things in life.

We've had snow since Saturday but when it started afresh last night it didn't stop me and Redhelen spinning round, head skywards, gobs open trying to catch snowflakes in our mouths - cos that's magic you know!

My ickle sports car is rubbish to drive in it tho.

Are you insane? Snow is cold and gets in your boots, and it makes you fall over and hurt yourself, and your train is late so you get to work late and don't get paid, and stupid brats think it's funny to throw it at people, and the white hurts your eyes and it just sucks tits, and is bad and wrong. So there.

Snow's grand. I was back in Edinburgh last week - where it's a bloody sight colder than it is down here - and it's so beautiful when it snows.

Anyway, what's with this Sucks Tits bit? You say it like it's a bad thing.

Surely that would count in their favour? I mean, if you can do that well, then nobody can say you're useless.

[identity profile] aquitaine.livejournal.com 2003-01-07 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Just to add a bit of contrast to the matter, it actually WAS 40 degrees in Melbourne today - the hottest day in 2 years apparently. Let me add that I hate heat. Let me also add that i love snow. I am from New Zealand, remember, and it makes the bitterly cold winters worthwile, when you wake up to a blanket of white all around you. And there are the added bonuses of snowmen (or women!)I agree that snow is good!

[identity profile] inulro.livejournal.com 2003-01-07 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
I hate heat, and I hate snow. Why do you think I live in England? (not much of either).

Was it actually 40 today? I coped remarkably well then (although the train was airconditioned and the cool change started to hit just as I left the station).

[identity profile] baralier.livejournal.com 2003-01-07 05:13 am (UTC)(link)
Topped out at 39 degrees in Melbourne.

Fuck I hate heat.

Don't suppose there's any room in your suitcase for a stowaway?

Yep, according to the weather lady it was 40.2! I was lucky cos I got to work before it heated up and I left just as it was cooling down. I spent the entire day in an air conidtioned office which was nice

Not all Australians get quite so crazy over snow. One of the many places I grew up had a (for Australia) fair bit of it each winter.

But it has been about fifteen years since I last met any, and quite frankly I'd love to swap climates right now. Bloody Melbourne summers...

SNOW!!!! SNOW!!!! SNOW!!!! SNOW!!!! SNOW!!!! SNOW!!!! SNOW!!!! SNOW!!!! SNOW!!!! SNOW!!!! SNOW!!!! SNOW!!!! SNOW!!!! SNOW!!!! SNOW!!!! SNOW!!!! SNOW!!!! SNOW!!!! SNOW!!!! SNOW!!!! SNOW!!!! SNOW!!!! SNOW!!!! SNOW!!!! SNOW!!!! SNOW!!!! SNOW!!!! SNOW!!!! SNOW!!!! SNOW!!!! SNOW!!!! SNOW!!!! SNOW!!!! SNOW!!!! SNOW!!!! Raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

I never thought I'd say it,

[identity profile] lpetersson.livejournal.com 2003-01-07 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
But after having grown up with snow in the frozen reaches of Scandinavia, I actually miss not having snow each x-mas.

I grew up with feet of snow every winter in Western Canada. I didn't mind it at the time, but it's one thing I definitely don't miss.

90% of the time I'm desperate to go back to Toronto, but recently some people on Usenet were discussing snow removal and suddenly I was happier about being here...

I know what you mean. When I was there I used to loathe it, and for a long time I was quite happy that we don't get snow here, but after going back to Denmark for x-mas for the first time in 6 years, I realised that it just isn't the same without snow.

I’m nearly 30 and still haven’t seen snow. This is what I get for living in the South my entire life. Some day I am going to take a trip to Colorado and see proper snow and make a snow angle and slide down a hill on a sled and maybe even try to ski down a baby hill. It’s still warm here in Florida; one only needs a jacket in the morning and at night because the sun warms things up enough for short sleeves during the day. I feel your pain as well as envy you :P

[identity profile] oddlystrange.livejournal.com 2003-01-07 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
Part of the reason I chose to leave South Florida and head up here to Virginia was to see snow. I finally got my first snow fall at 19, and heard the same things about it not being a "real" snow storm, blah blah.

Didn't matter, I got to go out and play in it for about an hour before the sun came up and melted it all away. The only thing that really got me was how WET snow is, it just doesn't look that wet in the movies.

We had a little bit of snow yesterday, but nothing stuck. I still glue myself to windows though to enjoy it.

[identity profile] oddlystrange.livejournal.com 2003-01-07 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, that's what I do too.

Must be a universal reaction from the depths of our snow deprived youth.

And ignore the boobs who say you'll get sick of it. It's been 10 years (not that we got snow every year) and I still go bonky happy with the stuff falls.

Heck, I still think frost is fascinating.

[identity profile] hellsop.livejournal.com 2003-01-07 07:20 am (UTC)(link)
methinks ms jen needs to spend a winter north of the Mason-Dixon line some year. Go for that job at Oscar Meyer.... (;

[identity profile] missjanette.livejournal.com 2003-01-07 10:30 am (UTC)(link)
wow, so you missed out on the joys of childhood snow.
never too late for that kind of thing, I say.
Perhaps *you* can join me for a day of snowangels and hot coco at some point.
What's especially nice is wandering city streets at night when the snow is falling. The city is so quiet at those times, it doesn't even seem real.

so yaaay, snow on you! we'll teach you how to make a proper snowperson yet.

Northerners just don't get the

SNOW!

vibe.
While doing the Sound of Music tour and salt mines in Salzberg (and, I highly recommend doing both) K and I made complete tits of ourselves in pursuit of

SNOW!

.
American college students and Austrians laughed, as they might,
BUT I SAW SNOW, MOTHERFUCKERS!
