Lyric quiz answers.
It's been long enough and the meme has propagated (and I sucked at everyone else's). Here are the answers ...
"Charm's in limited supply/And refusing to stretch/That indefinable nothing/Somehow keeps pushing you"
Joe Crow, "Compulsion", from the Cherry Red Records 1983 sampler Pillows and Prayers. (Also a zero-selling single.) Which album every hipster should have bought in 1983, as it was famously sold at a loss (pay no more than 99p) to promote the label. Joe Crow was in the Prefects with Robert Lloyd (Nightingales and Vindaloo Records). The blurb on Pillows and Prayers said he was getting a band together; of course, the bastard never recorded another note. Famously covered by Martin Gore on the Counterfeit EP.
"It's all ours/It's a love bond/It's a power bond/I just want to see your face"
Section 25, "View From A Hilltop", from From The Hip. Obscure Factory band, but this was a reasonably well-known bit of '80s synthpop. Heck, there was even a Razormaid remix of it. (Which I have on MP3.) The band have reformed, by the way, and quite a few of their old records are available through LTM Publishing.
"I'm dead and dank and rotten/My arms are wrapped in cotton/My corpse loves you, let's marry"
Monochrome Set, "Eine Symphonie Des Grauens". A single, and also on Pillows and Prayers. These are the opening lines of the song, but this was a tricky one because the third line doesn't actually scan properly.
"Capitalism is the most barbaric of all religions/Department stores are our new cathedrals/Our cars are martyrs to the cause"
The Pop Group, "We Are All Prostitutes". Their best-known song. If you didn't get this one, slap yourself.
"Kiss of neverness/Life of timelessness/We'll break the speed of chance/We'll tame eternity"
The Pop Group, "We Are Time", from Y. Their second-best-known song. Though I did pick some lines out of the middle.
"Sit down with empty papers/Wipe the smoke through the hallways/Someone whispers in the darkness/Might be there way too long/Scatter the dusty papers/Come back to blue heaven"
Cabaret Voltaire, "Blue Heat". Put in specially for
teknoirangel. (I fear I must admit I don't know my Throbbing Gristle well enough, or I'd have put in one of theirs.) Anyone who knows Micro-Phonies should have gotten this one.
"It's so hopeless to define/When you jump to close the blinds"
Josef K, "Sorry For Laughing", from The Only Fun In Town (also currently available through LTM). More famously covered by Propaganda on A Secret Wish. If you didn't get the band on this one, turn in your anorak.
"I'd sing solitaire for the B.E.F./But who wants to be with them, anyway?/Snow on Easter Sunday/Jesus Christ in reverse"
The Fall, "Tempo House". HiRez's excuse was not being familiar with side two of Perverted By Language. But you all should have been able at least to spot the band just by the way with words.
"Now there's action on the basement stairs/A monster, half man half beast, climbs/Hear the hatchet, grind, grind"
The Birthday Party, "She's Hit", from Junkyard.
zoo_music_girl getting this one was absolutely assured.
"You make me feel ashamed/At acting attitudes/Remember ridicule/It should be clear by now"
Public Image Limited, "Memories", from Metal Box, a.k.a. Second Edition. You all should have gotten this one.

Called the camera place - they are claiming my new toy will arrive this evening (?!) or tomorrow morning. "If it doesn't arrive by tomorrow evening, call us." If it doesn't arrive by tomorrow morning, I'm calling you. The memory from Crucial is due tomorrow - possibly before the camera it's for ...

And Sir Nicholas of Caveshire's favourite piece of music.
If you didn't get this one, slap yourself.
