Having aimed to make B-Movie for nine or so, [livejournal.com profile] ali_anarres and I made it for about ten, 'cos I suck. Must work harder at skiving off before six on B-Movie weeks. By ten it closely resembled the inside of a tin of particularly goth sardines. I had a WONDERFUL time talking to everyone, dancing to dodgy '80s (the only time we came close to lynching the DJ was when Heaven 17 "Temptation" stopped and restarted ... twice in a row) and stealing everyone's soul with the shiny new battery-gobbler. One day I will work out how to get the shots off the camera. [livejournal.com profile] damerell and [livejournal.com profile] ickle_yuki stayed over; one of them must be a good luck charm, because we actually got a sodding taxi in less than geological time.

Spent the rest of the weekend with [livejournal.com profile] ickle_yuki. To Camden on Saturday to look at a poxy flat in a depressing block. It looked like a particularly scummy council flat, except that everything in the carpark was recent and expensive. Welcome to Camden. Where the real-estate agents wear combat trousers and Boy jackets. Two more flats to look at on Wednesday, one in Tufnell Park and one in Arsenal (near tube++; near football ground--).

After doing B-Movie in the Underground Shoes boots I bought on my UK holiday in late 2001, I decided that I'd had e-fucking-nough. It was high time to get something more comfortable, if painfully clichéd and semidisposable. Toured the twenty-seven or so shops in Camden High Street selling an almost-identical selection of New Rocks and grabbed a size 46 pair of Style 654 ankle boots, £85. I probably need size 48 to get past the instep of the higher boots, but securing those would resemble effort. In any case, I have what I need. I'M GOING TO BECOME A GOTH NOW! GET ME MY SP00KY MAKEUP! PH3AR MY NEW ROCK KEYRING!

(Has anyone found an ecologically sound use for surplus New Rock keyrings?)

Sunday was a quiet, cold shopping day. A small amount of shopping around Tottenham Court Road, a small amount of shopping in Camden, cripple myself breaking in the New Rocks, a drink at the Dev. Home to collapse.

This morning I woke up feeling like I'd died. Called in sick, only had to field one "where is my arse located again?" call from the boss; it looks like he can in fact learn if you beat information into him with a big enough hammer. Finally signed up with a GP and got to see the nurse straight away, who confirmed that the throat thing was not an infection (do something) but a virus (do nothing), and who also wrote me a script for Ventolin. Nurses can write scripts here? I'm impressed. The nurse and secretary were both very sweet, nice and helpful, and the surgery is five hundred metres from my house; I think I've struck it lucky. Of course, I'll be moving away as soon as [livejournal.com profile] ladylilith returns, if not before. Ah well.

Now playing my 'Dodgy Goth' folder. What makes bands do dodgy covers of "New Dawn Fades"? John Frusciante, Primal Scream, Moby ...

I really need to get around to the hardware work on this box. Half a gig of memory, second IDE cable (so the FAT32 MP3 drive is on the secondary chain), better video card (and then [livejournal.com profile] minusbat can have the old one back to use under NeXTStep). Particularly the memory. But I can't reboot now, I've so much LiveJournal to catch up on!

What the hell does one do with the superfluous eight-megabyte CompactFlash card that came with one's camera?

Hmm. Load it up with some nice shots of London and trade it for one containing crappy pics of Vienna?
Y'know, sharing pics like, eh, the "old" way, per real, umm, _snail_ mail ;-?

It was a good weekend. If tiring and painful for the most part. :)

Well, you go away on a slightly longer holiday without needing to bring the laptop just to download the pics!

(since you can get lj and email via the palm anyway, the only reason to lug the laptop is because there is no such thing as enough cf memory when on holiday!)

Mail them to sexy americans who desperately need keyrings!

`Una has been hunting desperately for a keyring for a MONTH. You'd think with all the touristy stuff around here I could find SOMETHING good. HA!

I think it's probably closer to 100m - the doctor's office, that is.

Yes, nurses can prescribe certain meds in this country, although they will refer you to a doctor if they are not sure what is going on.

The Tufnell Park place isn't on Campdale Road by any chance is it?

Michael used to live on Campdale Road; when I moved to London, we took a flat in Holloway that's just 15 minutes round the corner from Campdale Road (Cardwell Terrace to be precise, next to a really cool record shop). I'm still registered with Dr Brown at the surgery just over the road from the tube station.

Sounds all very worrying to me.
What could you do with a New Rock keyring...use it as the weight on the end of a plumb line to get wallpaper to hang straight?

Ahem, Cough Cough

We have tonnes of items like this around the warehouse. Buy something like this, stick your compact flash in it, and make a diskless workstation. For fucksake buy one because the box they go in is already overflowing and for some reason more stock came in today.

(Also available in type 2 and other variants.)
