[livejournal.com profile] redcountess is now arriving on the 22nd. *sob* Although this does give us more time to find somewhere to live, eases immediate financial pressure and gives her Melbourne friends more time to say farewell.

Today I am a zombie. Off work yesterday because I just couldn't wake up properly. Wrongness: when my usual work cup of coffee (three shots of espresso in a mug, five sugars, milk) tastes so good.

I do not know where my phone is - though I'm pretty sure I did bring it home from the pub on Saturday night. If you've called or SMSed me since then, I haven't received it. Try the home phone (if you're so privileged) or email.

Personally I dislike text slang stuff - predictive text was invented for a reason after all :)

Although I do find that I'm now wanting a phone which will automatically break up messages longer than 160 characters into multiple SMS messages with suitable [x/y] and [cont] tags inserted as required :)

read this.

Some peasants with bricks for phones don't have predictive text...

I'll use some sms shorthand when sms-ing, because defending the English language isn't worth me getting RSI, but anyone with access to a full-sized keyboard has no excuse.

I do think the article is a tad reactionary though - surely it's not that hard to teach kids not to spk in txt when writing formal essays, just like they get taught not to use slang or swear words or colloquialisms etc. It's not like the playground was only filled with the dulcet tones of the Queen's English before the advent of sms.

You know what gets on my nerves? People who link to friends only entries. Why the pushback?

Have you decided on an area to live in yet? Or must I post a long rambling about the glories of Cricklewood?

BTW, that coffee sounds like a very good idea now.

Hmm.. IP over SMS, perhaps? Is this a Great Need, or merely silly?

Possibly silly, but no more than IP over HTTP, IP over DNS or IP over email :)
