How long do rats live for? I need a 6month-pet. Maybe I'll just get a ghoti again. Ghoti- the 24hr pet.

Rats live on average two and a half to three years, though it's not unknown for them to reach the age of four - and I had one buck (male rat) who reached six.

You should never have just one rat on its own, as they are social gregarious creatures who need the company of their own kind. They are also highly intelligent (their intelligence level is on a par with a dog's and they can learn to come to their own name) and do need interraction with their owner(s) on a regular basis.

Spike and S are from Velveteen Rattery (http://www.cyberratty.co.uk/), my own rattery; I still have their two sisters Niamh and Andromeda, and their brothers Szandor and Crowley as well as their father Silver. Unfortunately I received word that their mother Venus died quite unexpectedly today; however that particular bloodline has had no past history of health problems.

Incidentally, I am also the breeder of Rufus and De Nomolos, the two black rats you can see on MTV in the station ident sequences for the Osbournes!

that's some plug.

unfortunately, i need a pet for the hols, as I go off to do my masters in septmeber and won't have time to look after it. :(
I always wanted a rat, but now is not the time.

The house is too quiet without my dog, wot died on friday.
Got any fish? or mice? or in fact, anything that will die in six months?
