Quality is inversely proportional to sticker price.

[This application will now exit because it needs an 8 bit color Display (256 colors), but has detected that your default Display is 24 bit color.]

It's obviously ridiculous to expect proprietary software costing hundreds or even thousands of dollars per seat per year to be written to a better standard than five-dollar shareware circa 1990.

Run an 8-bit VNC display and have it on one panel of your virtual desktop?

Oh, I use VNC for all kinds of things like this. The old trouble ticketing system here refused to play nice with any window manager but twm or whatever *ugh* CDE uses, but it took me about a week to switch to sawfish. It's pretty convenient.

Another thing; with a three-button mouse on work's lappie and VNC to my desktop, I hardly know I'm actually using a Windows box via the VPN when I'm on from home.

Mathematical pedantry: experience leads me to believe that freeware, while a good thing, is not of infinite quality.

Well, it works for me now.

I withdraw further mathetmatical pedantry.
