Get into the groove.

In an attempt to warm up my brain for a return to work, I'm rereading large chunks of http://docs.sun.com/ . I was looking at this document. The table listing what breaks as you use user ID numbers further and further over 60000 hit my deep geek humour receptors, and I laughed and laughed and laughed.
You are not expected to understand or care about this, except to worry slightly and to take due care to switch off your hearing intermittently should you meet me after work. "Axle-maxial manglebratic geeble geep."

Date: 2002-08-22 12:52 am (UTC)Congratus on the job! It's encouraging because I only just started seriously looking myself. docs.sun.com, huh? You doing Sun sysadmin or Java-like programming? Don't tell
q_skud_ if it's the latter!
So I'm looking at cheap flights to London, and I'm also looking at cheap flights from London for when my lovers' lover (yes, that punctuation is correct) visits there and I'd like to drag her here for a day or two. Are Gatwick and Luton airports both pretty easy to get to via public transport? There are somewhat significant price differences between the two (Schiphol to Luton can be as little as €8!!) but I want to make sure they wouldn't be offset by differences in costs of getting to and from the airport. So is 11 October still a good night to invite myself over to your place? (You would tell me to naff off if crashing with you was inconvenient, right?)
BTW, said lovers' lover (
clairaide, if you're
wondering) has a lover from Melbourne who calls himself Australia
Joe. He just visited the Bay Area for a week or two. Anyhow, he
reckons he knows
q_skud_, so I wonder if you might know
him as well. Hey, Joe, what Joe do you know?

Date: 2002-08-22 01:53 am (UTC)Normally I'd just use the term V-mate, for my lover's lover. However, since we're talking about my lovers' lover (note slight punctuation difference), that term wouldn't fully describe the relationship. Even though there are two Vs, W-mate isn't right either because that would mean my lover's lover's lover's lover, which in this set of people, no matter which way you follow the path, would be me. She's actually opposite me on a diamond, but diamond-mate sounds like a term somebody would use at the diamond distributor around the block from me.
So before I add "metamour" to my vocabulary, could you tell me the exact meaning? Thanks!

Date: 2002-08-22 03:16 am (UTC)The cheap airlines tend to be cheap by flying you to a field in the countryside that is somewhere in the vicinity of the named destination city. Check train websites in coordination with the plane ones.
No Australia Joes spring to mind :-)
