Yesterday we discovered that the stack of prepared Tesco meals that were delivered on Friday were all just a few days off their use-by date, and had gone off. We are NOT PLEASED.

I have been troubleshooting (with an insufficiently large cannon) Liz's Win98 install. (You can buy Partition Magic, or you can use GNU Parted and a Linux boot disk for free and deal with a command line.) Bringing it back from the terminally fucked-up as well. Then trying to talk the shiny new DSL into not only working, but giving us our household network back so my machine can see hers. I have had to amend the phrase "No, that would be ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE" to "No, that would only be possible if things were COMPLETELY AND TERMINALLY FUCKED UP BEYOND ALL SANITY." Which, of course, is far too often the case.

Life is good in other ways. Looks like we're being guested to B-Movie by [livejournal.com profile] ali_anarres (mate! maaate!), and [livejournal.com profile] redcountess just got back from the doctor in better health than she thought and had a good wander around Walthamstow on this beautiful spring day. (This will be a good time to have a digital camera.) [livejournal.com profile] arkady is back from St. Albans today after a particularly awful week or so. I love and am loved. Even with the crap bits, the good bits are still damn fine.

Update: Just got the word from Liz: D-S-L! D-S-L! RAH RAH RAH!! We may be po', but we've got our INTERCRACK!

We haven't had that problem here (Bristol) with Tesco-maybe it's your local one that does this?

The past few deliveries have been close to spot on-today's was perfect!

I would complain, but you should have kept at least the box with the date.

Tesco is well known for that and your complaint to them will likely only get their standard reply, which is that you should specify long sell-by date for the items (there's a place for special instructions by item on the order form if you click through to that). If you don't say, they don't give you more than a few days. In their defense, it's still the common practice here to shop at least once a week, and to freeze ready meals that you don't plan on eating very soon. So for most of their customers it's no problem at all.

BTW you don't have to brave the Saturday crowds -- or rather you can pick an off Friday or Saturday night and go when everyone is out at pubs and clubs. It's rather empty then and shopping is a breeze.
