The telegrams worked quite well for what they were. I am, however, quite annoyed that several appear to have vanished completely. (nadnad, see anything of interest in the logs? I did in fact get the SMS return receipt on each one ...) I shall fill in gaps when I have a brain again.

LJ was, of course, being flakey at various times over the period, especially in the Sunday-Monday timeframe. There were periods when the whole database was not accessible. This is an SMS to email-posting gateway, neh? IF LJ was simply discarding the emails not providing notification back that an emailed posting didn't get into the databse properly, and instead depended on someone seeing no result and resending the email....

And by "flakey", we mean "click submit on a post/comment, have the load hang for a minute or so, get told that the document contains no data, click submit again". And that's just with the web interface.

So, unlesss nadnad's foo is good enough to resubmit when LJ chokes on a fatty, it's not too surprising...

The perils of being an early adopter I'm afraid... if it makes you feel better ALL of my Whitby posts disappeared :(

if you have a sent-sms feature on your phone (I have one on my t68) you can check back and see if there were any syntax errors (there were loads on mine where I'd forgotten the initial LJ or my pin etc).

I also have a copy of the spool from the whitby period so if you mail me the ones that are missing I can tell you if they arrived at my end and if they were passed on to LJ, although as its a spool file there are no timestamps, I will setup some proper logging of messages and do some more work on the SMS system tommorow.

It may be worth noting that SMS reciepts only confirm that the message was recieved by your service provider, not by the end party :(

The LJ -> SMS stuff is VERY basic atm, and mostly consists of horrible quick hacks in order for me to post while I was at Whitby... ironically it didn't work for me but did for most others :/

I don't have the messages themselves, dammit. (Messages only occasionally go into my outbox, and I clear them regularly because my phone is poo.) But they will of course contain my username.

I have seen the receipts return when the message is received by the phone at the other end, e.g. when someone emerges from the Tube. Or must I just be imagining this bit?
