This uses the US version of SMS... which has an odd E-Mail layer (read: nasty hack), if you look at their FAQ it explains it.

Which is fucking stupid, they are basically charging for e-mail -> LJ.

My sms -> lj gateway was rejected from LJ_Nifty with a snide comment about anyone being able to do this anyway.

I couldn't be arsed showing him up for the 'merkin wanker he is, I'd have probably said something naughty that I'd later regret ;)

Oh btw, I intend to do some more development work on the gateway this weekend, including setting up a journal/website and giving it a name :)

Suggestions welcome (for new features and a name and anything else really).

lj_sms_uk ... does 83300 do a damn thing (other than binning them) with SMS that don't originate from the UK?

(And if I ever use it in earnest again I shall keep better records. And copies of all messages ...)

SMS sent from outside the UK won't get to 83300, shortcodes are a UK thing (or at least country specific)

So if +44 83300 won't work, what about the long version of the number in question? Worth experimenting!

ahh the beauty of UK shortcodes... there is no "long number".

I have a plan to setup a secondary gateway using an actual phone handset that and sim that will allow users abroad to send to a full uk number :)

As for experimenting... there isn't a whole lot to experiment with... I already know how it works (what with my company running the gateway and all)

Well. You shall just have to FLOOD LJ with the "SMS Post..." subject line.

(And get them to start sending notifications for failed email posts ;-)

wechsler made a thing that (worryingly) lets him post pictures straight from his phone's digital camera to LJ. Not sure how it works, but it is a cool thing.
