March 13th is the birthday of L. Ron Hubbard!

The laptop now behaves. Neomagic driver (NM2160), 800×600, 8-bit colour. [livejournal.com profile] redcountess has been happily playing solitaire on it for several hours. Now all it needs is network. Should probably check sound too.

Today has been Zombie Day. We have both been afflicted with feeling mediocre at best and [livejournal.com profile] redcountess's knees aren't working either, so we missed an apparently wonderful evening down the pub with [livejournal.com profile] sparklielizard and [livejournal.com profile] stevenothing. Virtual *pint* to you both.

We did watch more of the Goodies DVD and have fish and chips for dinner, though.

All praise L-Ron!

I am almost inspired to see what my Laptop (a Toshiba T4500C runnuing win 3.1) can do.

Mostly, as a fish'n'chip fan, I would be interested in what your impression is of the meal, as someone who has tastes the Australian variety, and that they call fish'n'chips in the Uk.

Because, me, I could never get past the scales the Brits leave on.

Since Agent won't launch, I am reduced to making silly comments in LJ. This is the first, and thus least spurious.

At Whitby I ate at the wee Hotel on (or near) the Bridge, not Trenchers, which was closed(?).
I do not like Cod, methinks.

Cod's quite a bland-tasting fish. Haddock is nicer, imho, and isn't an endangered species.

Best place to eat fish in Whitby is the Magpie Cafe on the front. You know it's good because there's always a queue outside of it in the lunchtimes and evening. As well as doing a pretty fantastic fish and chips, they also do a wide range of other fish dishes with locally-caught fish - mostly traditional British food but some Continental and fusiony stuff too. Prices not bad either considering both the quality and quantity of food. Do not have a starter!

When we're in Whitby we love going to the pub *next* to the Duke of York that serves ginormous bits of fried haddock. One good thing about living in England, I've become more adventurous with my fish eating (as long as it's filleted) - in Australia I used to only order flake (shark), which is naughty because it's becoming as equally overfished as cod.
