We have checked into the hotel. The "data port" is a modem socket which they charge you $5.70/hour for the privilege of using (on the assumption that most guests will be connecting to work's iPass account and expensing every breath they're charged for). Now seeking an Internet cafe where we can just plug the damned laptop into an Ethernet port. (The laptop battery has arrived and works a treat.) The hotel air conditioning is fucking up our throats and eyes, but the alternative is 26°C and humid.

We are being flown over to Perth by the family from Monday morning to Tuesday morning. I fear I will not have time (or phone numbers) to contact my Perth darlings — please pass my apologies to them.

Friday night, we hope to be at Dream to play with the g*ths.

We are seriously considering buying one (circa Aus$100) just in case there's an unsecured wifi network around the hotel!

Of course, there'd be the minor problem of getting the drivers onto the laptop ... the CD and floppy drives are still in the UK, of course.

There's a bar in North Fitzroy that has free wireless internet (for anybody buying a drink or similar). There are probably other premises which do similar things, but I haven't found them.

David occasionally prods me back towards the idea of drawing a webcomic. Part of the background and a main setting for this would be a pub for BOFHen called "The Bastard". It has WiFi, naturally. And real beer. It's decorated in the remains of old antique computers.
