redcountess and I had a Quiet Night In on Saturday playing card games. Of course, we have computers for that sort of thing now. No wifi networks visible from the hotel room.
Up nice and early on Sunday. I chatted for an hour to
arkady and then Liz and I departed for
smilesnspiders' country mansion in Beveridge (Melbourne does a great name in silly place names), on the gravel road somewhere past Mickleham. Spotted several open networks in the city along the way. We had a lovely catchup with Fran and Glenn, met their rat, Mouse, and watched videos of Fran's goth fashion parade appearances. Fran now thinks of Melbourne strictly as somewhere she goes to work.
We met
seedy_girl and
thorfinn at Alasya for dinner. They are appallingly cute together. Thorfinn has a kung fu moustache and beard. I see a film: The Ocker Master. "That's not a knife. This, this, this, this, this, this and this are knives! Mate!" Ten-minute treatises on seasoning your wok. It'll be a cult classic.
This morning, Liz noticed my right nipple ring was missing. FUCK! Half my personality gone! Nothing holding my tit on! A visit to Piercing Urge will be required soonest possible. I suppose it's good it happened in the city I got it done in ...
Then to the twin propeller 737 to Perth. On Virgin Blue, the passengers hold their arms out and chant, "I do believe in aviation! I do believe in aviation!" They don't have pay toilets only because it hasn't yet occurred to them. We passed up the chance to buy Richard Branson's autobiography.
We survived a day of the family. None of you came to visit me, so you all suck. Paul, get a damned journal.
Carla has suggested a pub meet at the Windsor Castle Thursday or Friday. Dom and Carla are apparently sorting out good days between them. Details to follow. There might also be a small BOFHbof on whichever day that isn't. Liz is thinking Lazar's for some serious cow.

Date: 2004-04-19 08:08 am (UTC)This had me giggling muchly - particularly as I flew a 737 simulator yesterday morning! It wasn't in Australian airspace though.

Date: 2004-04-19 08:24 am (UTC)No, sorry, not even to visit you will I make it anywhere near Perth anytime soon. Remember, my family also live in Perth and 9000miles is the ideal distance from them as far as I am concerned. Hey, next time, you visit my family and I'll visit yours, we might both enjoy it more.

Date: 2004-05-04 04:42 am (UTC)Thank you! I've had a tape kicking around in the car for ages (found it when I was clearing out a desk at $JOB[-6]), it's some Jack Frost songs, but I didn't have the lyrics or titles. Recognising the above line sent me to Google to find out where it was from, and the second site I found had all the lyrics for the songs. Much thanks.
