I have spent the last few days in bed ill, coughing up rancid slime and unable to speak. It's great fun! (may not be 100% true.) Two postponed interviews (still happeners, thankfully). I have read the entire Internet twice.

Re petition: done. Much as I dislike much of the media and much of parliament, there is much, much worse lurking around and there are far worse possibilities.

What they've seen is Parliament telling them to just fuck off and preparing to nuke them from orbit, and they're trying to duck such a consequence. They pushed it just a bit too far.
