The Calling is highly recommended.
Oct. 3rd, 2002 10:08 pmDashed home on Tuesday evening and back out for a couple of trains to Cambridge. Of course I left my maps and directions behind, but the damsel in distress I rescued on Friday returned the favour when I phoned her to ask, er, where the hell the night was held.
I was horrified to discover that I can buy a train ticket with my Switch card without such user-unfriendly annoyances as, ooh, entering a PIN or anything. I think I'll be keeping the fucker locked up at home in a box. "Security - We've Heard Of It."
I like the Calling. Nice place, nice people, nice music. Spent most of the evening talking Strine with
shekhmet. Also
moomintroll, Donnla,
alixandrea and
gothslut. And catching up with
zotz, my esteemed host. Took pictures. The drink is pish, but the adulterated Holstens (three for five quid) were cheap and goth-friendly.
zotz should DJ in Melbourne.
Crashed at
zotz and
kboyd's. Heartening indeed to see a house with more stacks and stacks of vinyl records than of computing equipment.
kboyd tourguided me through the suburb of Cambridge and into town in the early afternoon, for lunch at The Bun Shop with
simonb. Looks like he's actually going to survive the Worldcom disaster, poor bastard. Not that he isn't looking for another gig anyway.
I now own a Leatherman. A Micra, which is serving as a keyring. And it's red! Not perfect - I'd prefer pliers to the scissors, and really I'm still after the particular Victorinox I was really wanting - but it's cute and will do for now.
(Not that that last phrase will be on my gravestone or anything.)
And remember: no matter how bad life may get, Jeffrey Archer is still in jail.
Addendum: And I can see why Leatherman's twenty-five-year guarantee specifically excludes the coloured finish. Chipping off already. Eesh ...
