Q. What's the difference between Esteemed NT Muppet typing boot net -install and boot net - install when attempting to jumpstart a Sun workstation?
A. Two days' chasing wild geese, that's what.

(I must admit I did the exact same thing when I first did a jumpstart. So I plead a bad user interface.)

Of course, that doesn't solve the problem with the broken piece of shit proprietary applications that crash X with the latest Solaris patches installed. But it gets us a little of the way there.

Got the recommended patch cluster in there as well? If you do it right, you can install the patch cluster onto the Software directory and install a fully patched version of Solaris via jumpstart.

Niiiiice! :)

I have to assume that any logical solution to this dilemma will be instantly (as within femtoseconds of submission) be completely and utterly dismissed by management to the very bottom of /dev/null. You know, underneath the pr0n even.

I'm sure you're familiar with that old chainmail about the development cycle of software?

Neither can I, but having shot myself in the foot like that before I'd look first. :-)

But surely the error from boot net -install should make it pretty obvious that the syntax is wrong. Won't it try to boot a kernel called -install ?

Or is the error message less informative than I recall?
