Horst Prillinger, an Austrian with too much time on his hands, has translated the Tube map into German (courtesy [livejournal.com profile] hirez). Compare Myrtle's If Britain Had Lost The War map.

A couple of years ago I there was a map Exhibition in the British Library, and liking maps a lot, I had to go see. The map that most intrigued me was a Russian spy map, being a extremely highly detailed map of the entirety of London - we're talking far more detailed than your standard A-Z here. With everything translated into Russian. Every streetname, every little alleyway. All in Russian. Now that must have taken someone a *lot* of time.

Maybe that's the map tourists use which justifies them stopping in the middle of the f-ing street when I'm walking right being them grr :D

I'm thinking I would find tube announcements slightly arousing, is that wrong?

Given the general clatter of the Northern Line, one would be forgiven for expecting the voice of Peelie to announce something like "... And that was a 12" on Zikzak records of Berlin." at the end of your journey.

*grin*

Oh... but I'd have to stay on pass my stop if it were an extended mix. I'd never get anywhere on the tube unless it was at the end of the line.

I guess this would make the circle line the equivalent of the "Metal Machine Music" style ever-looping final groove.

True.

I would never have left London if the Tube sounded like 'Metal on metal' from TEE.

Actually, they would've had to throw me off the train when it got to the depot:

"Go on. Piss off home. You'll not be meeting Iggy Pop or David Bowie in Golder's Green. Now hop it, yer daft ha'porth."
